Mr Benn was an awesome cartoon character from the 70/80's
basically everyweek he was going to a fancy dress shop and would get ytransported through the changing rooms into the world of whatever outfit he was wearing.

When Tony Benn used to be on the News and the interviewers used to say, "Mr Benn", it used to make me laugh.

Mr. Benn sounds like a cute childrens' program. I've never seen it, but the premise allows for all kinds of scenarios. The closest I can think of in the U.S. was a cartoon featured within another cartoon. The overarching cartoon was 'Rocky and Bullwinkle' while the inner cartoon feature was 'Sherman and Mr. Peabody' a boy (Sherman) with an extremely intelligent beagle named Mr. Peabody who had a time travel mechanism called the 'Way Back Machine'.

They traveled to historical times and events and got involved with adventures.

'Rocky and Bullwinkle' always comprised several short features in it. It also had another inner cartoon called 'Fractured Fairytales'. Very funny.
