if i'm on fire they dance around it
and cook marshmellows
and if i'm ice
they simply skate on me
in little ballet costumes
i want to write this feeling down, or draw it out, or photograph it; but then i feel like that would make the whole thing seem impure & artificial. i decide it will only cheapen the feeling.
in this town there lived a family. the mcharveys. elsa had married david when they were young, childhood sweethearts who took the town by storm, no matter how many times they argued & fell apart, everyone else got trampled by their love for one another & they always fell back into bed as if nothing had ever happened. other men envied david & other women envied elsa, not just because their couter parts were lovely, but for the love they shared, it was something whispered about & read in books, not often was a realtime faerietale seen in the land, let alone this world. they had four children, toby aged 10 (who was ever so sensible & grown up), charlie & matt, who were 8, blonde haired twins who caused trouble whereever they went, but they brought light to the town. elsa & david had only ever meant to have 2 children, but elsa's need for a girl led them to have a fourth, called daisy, who was 7. she had eyes of deep green, that made the grass seem grey in comparision, her hair was the colour of sunshine, despite the town rarely ever seeing it.
the children were the reason for the joy in elsa & davids life, days spent having picnics in the rain, taking them to the seaside to watch the storms rolling over the sea to hit the town. the boy attended the boys school & alwas excelled, toby who would one day be a scientist, his mind already far outstripping even some of the teachers, his grades were always top & he had his friends that didn't look up to him or envy him, but shared in his joy at doing well. charlie & matt did well too, the mcharveys children had all been blessed with intelligence, their antics caused such laughter, the whole town knew of these boys, because they shared their mothers beauty in a handsome way. yet daisy was the one favoured by everybody out of the mcharveys children, of course no-one liked to admit it, but she already was showing grace & beauty that out stripped her mothers, her eyes the size of dinner plates that captivated everyones attention, all the boys were already saying when they grew up they would marry daisy. & all the girls were already evious of her, despite only being 7. daisy was a breath of fresh air, as often remarked to her mother by teachers, she was quiet & had a joyful demeaner, she dressed in the birghtest of colours, whereas the rest of the town favoured greys, blacks & browns to match the forever rain.
while her brothers would play racously, daisy would be found listening to the sea through her growning collection of seashells, or drawing a sun she had only seen a few times.
'why does it always have to rain?' she'd ask timidly, her inwuisitive nature running away with her mind
'we don't know' her mother said, holiding her daughter close, 'why do you ask?'
'i feel like paper on fire, i feel the need to shine & lighten lives' she said sadly. 'i hope i see the sun again'
'hope is dangerous; but keep hoping, because living on a knife egde is ok sometimes' her mtoher whispered & daisy looked up at elsa with the big green eyes & smiled. 'you're a warrior with no war'.
daisy liked school, she liked to learn, yet her sunshine rays she gave off didn't always sit well with the other girls in her class. a quick outburst of 'i don't like the rain' & the room spun around to see her sat there braiding bright red ribbon in her hair. ditzydaisy they called her & her teachers loved the spirit in her & couldn't understand why this child became the dartboard for the rest of the students arrows of hate. but daisy never seemed to phased. teachers smiled at elsa when she collected her daughter from school, the town so small they could remember when elsa was that age & knowing she would grow & blossom as the trees do in spring.
daisy was a daydream child though & her umbrella caused the biggest bone of contention at school, made herself because they only came in black, (like so much & foten she couldn't understand why people didn't like the colours), hers was large & mishapen, bright colours of the rainbows, & along the bottom was stitched 'i found the gold & unicorns at the end of the rainbow'. & when waiting for elsa to pick her up from school she'd stand underneath it, alone, despite it could fit almost half her class underneath & the rest huddled under the smaller blacks ones, meaning they couldn't whisper to eat other for fear of poking someones eye out.
it was times like this, daisydaydream looked like a sun beam.
