Look at the puzzle from yesterday first if you don't want it spoiled!
First, a reminder of where our noble protagonist stands. With the score at 580-308, Cesar mutters to himself as he stares at this position:
"grumble grumble grumble...what a stupid rack...the most I can score is 18 points. oh wait, she might have QADI. I should block QADI. Oh wait...." and all of a sudden, a chorus of angels begins to sing as Cesar notices a play that might be the crowning achievement of his career to date. Is it good? Yes, yes it must be. His fingertips tingle as he lays down URINARIES as a disconnected 9 through the A and E. A tiny voice inside asks him if he might be setting her up for big Q plays, which he ignores - maybe she'll even challenge again!
"Oh goody!" exclaims Julia as he hits his clock. "My favorite dessert!" Cesar pulls the W out of the bag and watches in mounting horror as Julia Child starts laying down D(A)CQUOIS(E) 3x3 for 329 points. Remember, Julia mostly definitely knows her French desserts.
"149 points!" she chirps. Cesar being the good guy he is cannot help but correct her. "Actually, it's 329 points. And I'm challenging." Cesar's inner monolog is triumphant. "DACQUOISE?! Get that sheet off the board!" As the word comes back acceptable, and Cesar realizes he has just lost 645-644, he spontaneously combusts and his scream trails off into the distance: "FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU...." And thus Cesar opened the 2012 Sallad Open at 0-1, -1.
