Well, they're right - copying is not theft - they're right as far as it goes, which is not very far. That it's not theft doesn't mean that, when unauthorized, it isn't, or shouldn't be, as illegal as theft. And the worst thing about the hyperbole from the other side (about copying being theft) is that it encourages inane rebuttals like this one. It's the very fact that copying isn't theft that prompted the creation of copyright in the first place, because it was obvious even back in the 17th century that common law against theft wasn't enough to protect the rights and income of creators.

Which in turn doesn't mean that copyright should be all-encompassing or perpetual, which its current defenders seem to think it should be.

Nope, it isn't theft at all. Selling an unauthorized copy of a copyrighted work might be a "theft," but that's a little bit different.

The collisive aspect is that Nik is a hornplayer, ex-San Francisco, someone Whump knows too, and heavily involved in orchestrating and playing the music tracks for animations from his current base in Belgium. You can check out my FB page facebook.com/magscanner for a link to their FB if you want. I never expected to discuss Nik and ebooks in the same sentence, such as this one.

Now that I think of it, I'll bet I could get a book of interesting stories out of Nik, if I could get him to talk into a recorder for a few days. I could get fifteen books out of Nancy, if she'd just sit still that long.

I've been a fan of Nina Paley for a long time. She has a rare sense of humor.
Regardless of how much or little you agree with her on "IP".
