Ficwise, 2009 was a dry spell for me. I didn't write any fic until the end of April, and much of what I did write last year were short fic(let)s of less than 1,000 words, with the exceptions of the one-shot and WIP I wrote in the Star Trek Rebootverse. Part of that was due to fandom malaise - I'd burned myself out on fests in previous years and so didn't sign up for any in 2009 - and I wasn't committed to any single fandom for very long (though my fannish squee over the Trek Reboot was intense, and in fact I have another Spock/Uhura WIP on my hard drive that I'm not counting in my 2009 tally because I haven't posted any part of it online anywhere). I was also rather busy in RL, wrapping up my master's degree studies, looking for a job, and moving.

In fact, I was more prolific in 2009 than my fic tallies suggest. Earlier in the year I was writing my master's thesis, a project that ended up being over 25K words, with an additional 8K+ words in footnotes. Then in November I successfully participated in NaNoWriMo, writing 50,029 words for an original mystery novel. So if you were to add up all the writing I did last year, I was more prolific then than in any of the previous years I've been keeping track.

For 2010 I've set myself a few specific goals:

  • Take part in takingitinturns, a Harry/Ginny fest/exchange that runs February-April.
  • Finish at least 2 of my outstanding WIPs. Leading contenders are Intersections (ST) and The Golden Horn (HP, Harry/Ginny). I also have the aforementioned unposted Spock/Uhura WIP, set in Kenya, and I would dearly love to finish The Transformation of Ducklings (HP, Rose/Scorpius) in 2010, since I only have 2-1/2 chapters to go. I'll only commit to a promise to finish 2 of them, however, so which 2 they turn out to be is anyone's guess.
  • Write more Vorkosigan saga fic. This was my hope for last year as well, and I'm determined to see it through in 2010.
