I stumbled on this. I always felt a little cheated by the novel in that LMB left out this whole sequence of events--and even disappointed. This does a very good job of telling the story of those missing moments in a novel that I am otherwise very fond of. Thanks.

I was disappointed as well that we never got to see Ekaterin's confrontation with the Cetagandans - I've long wished Bujold had just told her publisher she needed more time to re-write Diplomatic Immunity, but, alas. I'm glad you found this, and glad you enjoyed it! Thanks so much for your comment.

I've just finished rereading Diplomatic Immunity, and this slots in perfectly before those last few pages. It's so very well done: perfectly pitched to evoke all the tension that any interaction with the Cetagandans seems to involve, particularly in this complicated situation, and everything that Ekaterin's going through. It's also great to see more interaction between Ekaterin and Haut Pel.

I will not sacrifice Miles' honor on the pyre of this silly, stupid war in the making.

One of many excellent lines! I loved this - thank you.

Thank you! Although I am frustrated with the way Bujold wrapped up Diplomatic Immunity, it did leave the door open for misisng moments and alternative POVs. This was a story I'd bene wanting to write for ages. I'm so glad you enjoyed it!

Does this mean you've started on Cryoburn? ;-)

Started, stayed up late and finished this morning (I was on a deadline - have a flight to catch this afternoon). Will respond on your LJ so I don't spoil innocent readers over here!
