At some point before the end of the series, he's probably going to try something experimental to prove "House is in Pain. House Is Willing to Take A Risk.". It won't work.
I agree with angidas. He's going to be crippled, alone, and in more pain then he was in the beginning bcs of age and referred pain from walking with a cane for so long.
Evidently the recent spoilers have rendered me cranky and pessimistic... sorry :(

Isn't that what already happened?
I don't think they'll do it again. I think it'll just go on as it has, now. There may possibly be some complications about his liver at some point from the huge amounts of Vicodin he was taking for a while there. And in real life, he would be at a higher risk of having another infarction or heart attack, I think, but I doubt the show will do it. So yeah, I'm with everyone saying that he'll just continue alone (well, he does have friends actually) and in pain.
Isn't that what already happened? For House himself, yes. For the viewers ... I feel that No Reason got pushed aside fairly quickly. It was a fantastic opportunity but many of the ideas in it got dropped (remember how Euphoria only carried over one ep after it occurred?).
So, I guess I think that there's still lots of room for an alternative (not New Age, just different) therapy or treatment option to be explored as a longer story arc.
I agree with your second paragraph (I think angidas and I mean 'not with a romantic partner/entanglement' when we say 'alone' though)
What I would like to see happen is House ends up finally getting rid of the damn thing, gets fitted with a super high tech prosthetic (eventually) and runs again without pain, preferably with Cuddy off into the sunset to make babies.
But to stick with the show's canon, he will probably still be miserable and in pain when the show ends.... I really don't want to think about the show ending, but it'll be inevitable.
side note: I get Triathlete Magazine and a few months ago featured a double amputee on the cover with his high tech "legs" planning on doing the Ironman in Hawaii. Just thought that was so amazing. Very inspirational kid.
yeah, i've been watching "Climbing Mount Everest: Beyond the Limits" on Discovery Channel and there was a double amputee doing that as well. not sure how far he got, but it was still incredible to watch. he also brought along his old pair of "legs" and gave them to a local man who was a double amputee and was so poor that he couldn't afford fake ones. he'd been walking on his knees for decades for that reason. it was amazing to watch the man walk upright and at full height for the first time in over twenty years. truly inspirational.
One of the problems with amputation for House is that the injury is too high on the thigh. If they amputate above the injury, a prosthetic is probably out of the questions. And then there's phantom pain. An amputation nearly at the hip would likely cause him more problems than he has even now.
