Kids (ages 3-10) in my apartment used to call me "uncle". I told them strictly, "Call me Chirag". Few resisted in the name of "respect". But the cool and smart ones liked the idea and started calling me by my name and others soon followed.

I dont like to be called uncle not because the fear of feeling old but I feel that calling elders "uncle" is now out-dated.

Agreed !
You can come up with something creative, ask them to call by that. But if you continue scolding even after someone else asks sorry for calling, then you will be compensating for your insecurity of being old.

I used to call my supervisor as sir first when I came from India.
He told me to call by his first name for informal pupposes and Dr. for formal purposes.
