With everyone's enlightening perspectives, I want to say that the band's style doesn't have to necessarily be completely innovative, so long as they don't fully stick to an established medium or work within that medium to bring about a variety of sounds. Also, as far as I'm concerned, instruments and musical arrangements are a bit more important

At the Drive In kick ass, man. Red Hot Chili Peppers' old stuff is pretty good.
