Dare I say another music post?

Yes I did, and I intend on staying true to my word. Today's topic: who is the greatest guitar player of all time? Yes, indeed this question has been pondered by many an individual since the creation of the electric guitar. To fit into this category, I think that the player must be highly skilled, knowing of his craft, versatile in his playing, but ( Read more... )

Goddammit, stop putting the Clash in the same group as those other bands. They were not a "s**t for brains punk band" as you put it, they weren't even punk. You might not like Mick Jones (which is a pretty poor impression since you've only listened to Combat Rock), but still.

Ramones and Sex Pistols shouldn't be in that category either. Yes, they weren't so musically talented. But Blink 182, Sum 41, and Green Day are pop bands. Get your genres straight, okay, thanks.

Jimmy Page is awesome, probably my favorite too. After him, Johnny Thunders, hands down.

Ok sorry about that, I was just a little annoyed for some reason and had to take it out. I'm not going to edit it, since then you're comment would make no sense, but keep in mind I don't mean it that much. Still, with what Clash I've heard, I can't commend Joe Strummer or...that other guy, on their guitar prowess. Also, when I was referring to "s**t for brains punk bands", I didn't mean the Ramones, Sex Pistols, or Clash, or even Green Day so much. It was just at title to describe the bands that fit into that category; it didn't even mean any association with what bands were there. So sorry. I'll stop ragging on the Clash from now on, just don't get too easily provoked since it's sort of easy to feed off of.

jimmy paige... *sigh*... oh how i love him. i would have to agree that he is the best out of all of them. you also managed to get in my favorite beatle... :) and eric clapton... *sighs again*. the blues got a nice mention with b.b. king. angus young... ahh i get so excited every time i hear the opening chords of "back in black" on the radio in anticipation of the awesomeness to come. and i also commend the mention of george thorogood.. right now i'm trying to memorize every word to "bourbon, scotch, and beer." mind you, that's over 8 minutes long, but it's amazing.

this might be my favorite of the entries, because guitar players are always my favorite part of any band. i completely agree with every one in the top 7, after that i don't know too many others, at least by name...
kudos

Well, a few of them that you may not know are in really good bands that you may like to a certain extent or don't know at all. At least four of those guys are jazz guitarists, Tommy Iommi is with Black Sabbath, Dr. Know is with Bad Brains, and Vernon Reid is with Living Colour.

yeah, the only band i even know out of those three is black sabbath- and i don't think i've ever heard one of their songs. i'm naive when it comes to a lot of more modern music. oh well...

Bad Brains and Living Colour actually had most of their prominence in the 80's. If you ever watched the music special for "Black in the 80's" on Vh1, they showed Living Colour, since they're an all-black group. Bad Brains is too. I don't know if you'd like either of them, though; Living Colour is pretty hard metal and Bad Brains does punk, thrash metal, and reggae in completely different songs. Check them out if you're interested.

Oh dude, Finch does not have good guitar players. They play simple chord progressions, and aren't very creative at all. Sorry.

Yeah they do. dude, have you even heard any of Randy's leads, especially from the demos of the new record? I'll admit, Grizz is not nearly as good, but Randy's got some sick leads and they make for good collaborative efforts. Also, as I stated in like my second entry in this thing, Randy constructs his own guitar effects. If that isn't creativity, then I'm a Klansman.
