Seems like all I do is update once every couple months or so, but I suppose that's ok. Life has been so packed with new things. Since my last entry I got married and started teaching high school physics and physical science. The wedding was perfect, and married life has been wonderful. People have asked how I've been able to manage two big life ( Read more... )

Hey David. I'm glad you updated. I have talked to you in a really long time. I kept meaning to get in touch with you to see how everything was going but I figured things were pretty hectic. I'm really glad you are married and happy. I am so happy for you. And wow, you're teaching now - that is AWESOME. I am so scared of my first year of teaching so I feel your pain.

Well I am really glad that things are going well for you. I wish you the best in the future. Keep in touch!

I will try to keep in touch better, but as you said, life has been pretty hectic. I'm still not used to coming home and realizing that I have so little down time compared to when I was in college. You'll be used to that already since you've worked your butt off your whole way through.

These days I think about Mr. Helmick a lot. I wish I could give him a call and ask him so many questions. I am very grateful to have had such good teachers in high school to learn from.

Anyway, thanks for the comment! I'm sure we'll keep in touch better as life goes on.

Teaching. Ugh. Trying to prepare for a lecture is a miserable, lonely experience, and I never feel prepared no matter what I do. And this year is just as hard as last year, so far. I think this is just one tiny manifestation of my complete lack of faith that I can ever get through to anyone on any level ever.

I'm glad married life is going well for you. I'm very much in favor of anything that helps you stay sane.

Well, for me lecturing aint so bad, and truth be told I don't do nearly as much of it as you probably do, and the stuff is so basic that it really doesn't require a whole lot of preparation for me to talk about. What requires preparation is the other activities I need to have them do to learn the stuff. Labs, group work, how do I make everyone in the group actually *do* the group work, etc ( ... )

Ugh, discipline. That's a whole new dimension of teaching that I hope I never have to deal with. I don't envy you there. The worst I have to deal with is statements that they "didn't do it that way" in high school.

College algebra is pretty basic, too. It's just that explaining things is such an open-ended thing, and I can't seem to think of and settle on exactly one way to do it.
