We sneakily filmed, AND they were not clear AT ALL on the first flight that the camera was supposed to be off. Each successive flight we had on that trip included more (understandable) English, more written warnings, and more rules. We didn't know it wasn't allowed until way too late. ... airline noobs.
I've gotten used to the many many rules involving electronics and take-off landing over the years. Though it amuses me how draconian some of them are (ebooks/laptops/electronics cannot be stored in the seatback pockets and must be store under the seat or the overhead bin), yet how easily breakable they are (ie. as soon as the flight attendants buckle in, they can't really stop you from putting your headphones in and pulling out your camera/DS/ereader you hid under your jacket.)
And you just need more practice. Time to fly everywhere. =)
