Ryan and Elaine have both been very busy this morning in the kitchen and around the house. They've been cooking, washing up, rearranging furniture, asking for folding chairs and small tables from Bar, and generally getting set up for a party.

Elaine's been using the back of her cookbook (Better Homes and Gardens, 1969) as a guide for setting up ( Read more... )

The door slightly ajar, Chris walks in, looking around. She has a tight-lipped smile on her face. I'm not late, that's good.

It would have been nice if she could go back to her place and take a quick shower and change. She's been wearing the same thing for hours now.

But the temptation to throw a nap in there might be too great.

Ryan spots Chris near the door and walks over.

"Hey," he gives her a kiss on the cheek, "glad you could make it. We were getting worried."

He takes the pan from her hands. "This the stuffing?"

"Yes. Worried?" It takes a moment for her to realize how long she's been gone and that she didn't leave Jack a note. She rubs her forehead.

"Sorry. I didn't think I'd get caught out there," she says lamely.

Ryan nods, giving her a concerned look. "Is everything ok?"

Kim spots Behrooz and she smiles at him slightly, not wanting to frighten him.

She leans down a little, "Hi."

"You've never seen these foods before?" She's looking at his face, trying not to be too obvious, but she's relieved that the bruise is fading.

Michelle's at the door with a covered dish. She's made pillsbury biscuits, from a can, but she managed not to burn down the apartment or destroy the biscuits, so it's an accomplishment.

Tony's next to her and he's holding, you guessed it, a bottle of wine. He whispers something to her about maybe having to leave early for his shift.

Ryan's there to greet them.

"Hey Michelle, Tony," he says, nodding at the couple. "It's good to have you. And you brought wine, thank you."

At this rate they'd have as many bottles as guests.

"Hi Ryan," Michelle isn't sure what to do with the biscuits.

Tony hands the wine off to Ryan, "Hey, Ryan."

"Michelle you can just put that on the buffet table," Ryan says, taking the wine from Tony.

It's buffet style so everyone is free to serve themselves. On the table there's salt, pepper, gravy and a few bottles of sparkling juice and wine.

They're not going to run out wine anytime soon.

Elaine is hovering around the table, making sure things are right.

She should really eat with everyone else, though.

And she notices that there's definitely not a dearth of wine.

Yes, she should.

Ryan, who was about to sit down with his food, walks over to Elaine. "Honey, everything's fine. Sit down, relax. Let me get you a plate.

She sits down, rather obediently for Elaine. She smiles. "Well, I'm not used to sitting during a feast. I'm usually up serving with the girls."
