I agree. But something about livejournal is so personal and comforting while xanga just feels commercialized and like you're broadcasting it to everyone you know.

C'est vrai . . . but they could integrate the goodness of both worlds! The personalness of livejournal and the customizability of xanga (eljay is customizable too, but xanga is easier and more far-reaching)
