I had a great time at the Spadina Museum 1920s garden party! The weather turned out BEAUTIFUL (if very warm). Had a great time having my picture taken, playing croquet, eating ice cream, and touring the house and grounds.
The blue dress my friend is wearing is a simple one I threw together the night before for her, using a blue and white collar I got from my great-aunt. Not bad for a last-minute effort and I think she looked great. We're both wearing my great-grandmother's gloves and my friend is also wearing her hat. My straw cloche I found at a thrift store. It's hard to see, but I actually manages finger waves under there!
I also got started on my 1780s flowered gown for Costume College. I decided to make things easy on myself, and buy the
Sense and Sensibility Ladies' Portrait Dress pattern. I got the e-pattern, and for $6 it was a hell of a good investment. I've long since lost my pattern from my striped polonaise and this went together easy with minimal fitting.
I only made the neckline lower and took in the waist a smidge. I also am finding it's not really sitting very smooth across the neckline in the back, but I think that can be solved with a little ease stitch when I put the bodice lining in.
