Occasionally on Australian forums you notice a non-Aussie pop in and remark in shock/surprise/amazement at a prevailing community attitude ( Read more... )

OH MY FUCKING GOD DO NOT GET ME STARTED.

I used to have this friend who was married to a guy who had to pay child support (had to) and she bitched constantly about how the ex would go away on holidays every year. SO FUCKING WHAT. She still fed the kid and clothed the kid and housed the kid and paid the kid's fucking doctor fees and dentist fees and school fees and bought the kid some Maccas every now and then and whatever the hell else parents spend money on for their children. It's not like she was all, "No, you can't have lunch because Mum's going to Bali!".

RAGERAGERAGERAGERAGE

oooh, I totally forgot to mention how much I hate the opinion that women aren't entitled to child support unless they're destitute.

If you and the kids aren't eating gruel and wearing rags = no child support is due.

Bill whinges because omfg he needed to backpay to bring his child support up to $150/month for the 07 financial year. wth? I can assure you that the kids cost me a hell of a lot more than that, but for some reason it's the end of the world. And when I dared suggest that it was warranted he flipped at me. *sigh*

Thank you. omfg, it was so hard.

Honestly, he really wanted to start a fight over it. But I had work to do. I've never pulled this off before, but I said, "Honey, I'm not going to fight about this. Please stop talking." Then I put my headphones on and turned up my music until he shut his mouth.

That's pretty un-fugging-believable. I do not want to think about how frustrating that must be for Aussie women. Who, I'll bet, are not less underpaid than women over here, still significantly below men's wages...

I guess Australia is a lagging behind in a few areas, and you're so far away that we hardly ever hear about what's happening there (unless you're on fire). Do you feel like you're in your own world down there, or is it just from the outsider's pov?

Australians make me cringe. It's all woe-is-me, it's-somebody-else's-fault, the-world-is-unfairly-biased-towards-women/minorities/homosexuals, my-tax-dollars-pay-for-your-everything, supermarkets-are-against-singles-because-they-offer-discounts-if-you-buy-more-than-two-jars-of-pasta-sauce (I kid you not - the online version of my district's newspaper had hundreds of comments from single people whinging that it was unfair that supermarkets offered discounts if you purchased in bulk. Apparently supermarkets do this to attract families and hate on single people). There is utterly no sense of manners, decency or personal responsibility.

I envy you and your Scandanavian lifestyle :(

Wow, sounds bad. I wonder why it's like that.
Heh, well we also get those discounts when buying two of something, but I'm more irritated because they make out like it's a big sale, but you only save 1 SEK off a 17 SEK jar of pasta sauce. And in fact you lose 32 SEK because you would have made your own sauce if you weren't tricked into buying those two jars... Which is all beside the point, but anyway. ´:)
