Quite Satisfied

Well, it's been an adventure in audio the last two days. While at Balticon, I bought a little mixer off of Mike Mennega, and then came home and ordered some good headphones, and scored a microphone off of a friend of mine who didn't need it anymore. Sounds like a good setup. What's the microphone? I've found that with some microphones (like my Shure SM57) I really do have to have the gain up almost all the way in order to pick up a decent level -- and that's not necessarily a bad thing, if the mixer's good.

It is your photograph, that had to be one of my favorites from all the pictures taken that weekend (I hope it was okay I made it into an icon).

As for my microphone, it's a Shure RS230, and my mixer is an Alesis 8 channel USB one that was Mennenga approved . I'm happy with what I've gotten out of it so far, though I have yet to record any content with it. That comes this weekend.

Oh, sure! I'm tickled that you're using that photo.

I'm not that familiar with the RS230, but I know it's a dynamic, so turning the gain up all the way probably is about right. Listen to your recording with those good headphones, and if the result sounds good, you know you're doing things right. >8->

Sounds like you have the tech stuff well in hand. Let me know when you are ready to give it a test run.
