Akito was tired. The night had been going for so long now, and he'd had barely any sleep. He'd decided that the upstairs hallway seemed slightly less dangerous than anywhere else, and settled there, leaning against the wall and trying not to fall asleep.
The sound of chains woke up him up though, blinking in alarm and looking down the hallway. What on earth was that? The light shivered, ready to run again, when he saw...children? Two little kids. They could be ghosts, he didn't know, but they didn't seem dangerous...he hesitated, watching them warily. What would they do?
The girl peered back, face hidden in the scarf. She made no move to draw attention to him, bringing her finger to her lips in a silent bid for him to remain quiet. There was nothing to be gained, and so long as he remained silent, they would do nothing to harm him. Unlike her brother, the gesture held no power, only a silent warning.
"When the blazing sun is gone, when he nothing shines upon, Then you show your little light, twinkle, twinkle all the night."
He saw the gesture and thought on it. If he remained quiet, he'd be okay? Alright...he could do that, nodding a little. Agito was asleep right now, so that would be fine.
Akito did get to his feet though, just in case. He head-tilted at the girl, afraid but curious. Did she know something bad was near? Or did staying quiet stop the bad? The latter would make sense...
The nursery rhymes and songs the boy was singing were familiar to him. He almost wanted to echo some of the words, but that would break the being quiet rule. Who were these two?
The boy had heard him...but didn't seem certain of it. Akito frowned, glancing at his AT. They tacked on the ground when he moved. He could get them off if he was careful, but...
The song was pinging him rather badly, thanks to the fact he was known as the light to Agito's dark. He looked up again and soundlessly asked Why? The Tuner side of him let him speak without sound, manipulating himself just enough for it. It was also analysing the song, wondering if it had some meaning. Almost everything here did seem to...or at least, the man's tapping had...
The girl made a tiny gesture to her lips, sewn shut as they were. Even had she wanted to, she could not answer. She could not change that fact at all.
She eyed the AT quietly, glancing at her brother with obvious worry. She was scared, but not for herself, she was quietly miserable but more intensely frightened for him.
He shouldn't, shouldn't try to remove the bindings on them. And he shouldn't move. He shouldn't make a single sound until they had passed.
For the moment, there was no deeper meaning to the song. The boy wished only to give his sister comfort and to remind himself that she was there. It was only some twist of chance or fate that the choice had aligned so closely with Akito and Agito.
"In the dark blue sky you keep, and often through my curtains peep, For you never shut your eye, 'till the sun is in the sky."
Stupid song. It was getting to him now. He shook his head a bit to clear it. He didn't need to analyse it right now, just let the words register and store away for later.
He watched the girl and blinked slowly. She was afraid...the light frowned and lifted a hand, touching his own lips. He could talk, but the fear she showed was enough to make him listen. So instead he asking silently A monster? Partly to see if she'd answer in a way that she could without speaking, and partly because he wanted to know. If there was something else he needed to avoid at all costs.
He'll make you quiet, and then they might come when you can't scream. You have to be able to scream. You have to be able to make noise. Daddy can't hear you if you can't call for him. She glanced at her brother again, eyes wide with worry and fear.
I don't like what he does. I don't like what I do. Are we the monsters now too? I don't want to be a monster, I just want daddy. She tugged the scarf tighter against her neck.
"As your bright and tiny spark lights the traveller in the dark, Though I know not what you are - twinkle, twinkle little star."
That was harder for him to read, so he woke his other up with a mental jab. Agito woke up swearing and muttering. Upon seeing the ghosts through the light's eye, he swore slightly. Once Akito had calmed him down, they both watched, working that out. Had the two been here with their father? But now...what had happened here?
The light shook his head a little. No, you're not. They weren't monsters. Even if they were ghosts, they hadn't tried to hurt him. They were scared, just like he was. Even if they shouldn't be here, they weren't monsters, not really. He thought for a moment before asking Your father? Is he here?
'This is really fucking strange. And that song he's singing is weird.' 'You have no idea. It's bothering me.'
The girl looked at her brother again, her only answer a helpless shrug. He had been, once. Long ago. Longer than she could properly remember, he had been here. They had always been here. Other places were stories told by the adults around them.
"Star Light Star bright, The first star I see tonight..."
...had they been born here? The idea made Akito shiver. He'd only been here a few days and he already hated it. But to have been here all your life...how could anyone have been able to stand it? And what had turned them into ghosts? He didn't remember being one when they'd died briefly...so why were these two still here?
'...I used to sing that...' 'You don't need to anymore though. I'm here now.' 'Yeah but...what would you wish for, in this place? If you'd been here for all your life?'
The dark was silent at that, and Akito didn't press him. The line of thought was...scary. He didn't want to think about it. He turned his attention back to the twins, watching them. After a moment he sighed as softly as he could. I'm sorry... He wanted to help them. But how could he? Ghosts...you couldn't touch a ghost. How could he help them?
The girl furrowed her brown, confused for a long moment, and then shook her head in a deliberate gesture. There was nothing he could do for them, and he had done nothing to them. Why was he sorry?
"I wish I may, I wish I might, Have the wish I wish tonight."
The boy kept his head turned in Akito's direction, forehead still furrowed in confusion. He seemed to realize that someone was there, but what Akito was doing puzzled him.
He wanted to help. He wanted to be able to help the twins. But there was no way he could...and that bothered him. Akito was saddened by what he saw.
There has to be a way...somehow... Silent words more to himself. Whoever had trapped the two here could be stopped, couldn't they? He wanted to do something...maybe he needed to search more in the daytime. Find what this place really was.

The girl shook her head again, keeping her finger in place.
Completely silent meant not moving, he couldn't make any noise.
"Then the traveller in the dark, thanks you for your tiny spark,
He could not see which way to go, if you did not twinkle so."
