There's a bakery by my house that makes one of the best red velvet cakes in the Bay Area. It was $22 for an entire cake. It was so good. I had a bite for dessert tonight. :D
I would experiment with putting two panels together and try to worth towards getting a half-sphere shape by taking it in at the seams, if there isn't any better patterns available ._. once you've worked out the correct length and curve the rest should be easy.
Another thought occured to me: your pointy end of the panel would probably end up with a 90 degree angle. That way, putting 4 pieces together there will result in a flat surface.
I've never tried for a four-panel... usually for hats for that shape it needs to be at least six panels, with a leaf like shape yes. What are you using it for? The veil or the hood? O_o
