This is from the Summer too, from the end of RamadanI was at the gym the other day. It’s a nice gym, not too big, has a sauna and even a small pool and a terrace where you can sunbathe. And it’s ladies only, which is probably a good idea, as it is a rather mixed neighbourhood culturally, with lots of Muslim people. I lay down in the sun on the ( Read more... )

oh this was fascinating to read ! I feel exactly the same as you Maja - I love learning about people's culture directly from themselves:

This especially " I’m curious to know how they relate to it. "

I loved every word of it.
I don't know any Turkish people - probably because my mum lives in Cyprus (the Greek half) and dated a Greek Cypriot for 10 years. He is Greek Orthodox - so I do know a wondrous amount about their culture.
My mum had to boil a sheeps head (with eye) every Easter on the hob.
I went to school with many Asian girls - Hindu, Sikh and Muslim were the 3 religions amongst people I knew. Most of my friends were Hindu - I learned a lot about their religion.
Thank you for writing this Maja - I really enjoyed reading it XX

Oh I didn't know that about Scotland, wow, that's exciting! I should read the news more often. Hehe the Union Jack hast become such an element of design like no other national flag... except perhaps the U.S. flag... It will certainly be quite another image without the St. Andrew's cross... Of course it's a trivial matter compared to the poltical and economic impact... Though politically we've all been living in the same state for some time already, only we haven't quite realized that yet... ok, it's perhaps more obvious on the continent though, GB still has its own currency and stuff... and natural borders
