Yeah, Livin on a Prayer does get overplayed a lot :/

Oh yeah, I constantly hear it when I listen to the regular radio, and just in general all over the place.

I have to agree with your choices. :)

Not gaining is still something!

I'm looking forward to your next round of songs, whenever you get around to it ^_^ (or if you don't, that's ok too). It's always interesting to learn about peoples' taste in music, even if it wildly differs from my own.

Oh God, Livin' On A Prayer. It is sooo overplayed. It's one of those songs that Uni clubs nights or weddings Djs play all of the time. Like, there is so much music out there (especially decent 80s stuff) that there is no excuse for DJs or the general public to be so basic and unoriginal.

Like A Prayer on the other hand will never get old no matter how many times I hear it. But then I do love Madonna.

My husband says that Janet Jackson doesn't get the credit she deserves and he's totally right. So. Many. Amazing. Hits. I'm pleasantly surprised by the amount of artists I see that reference The Velvet Rope as a big fave though so she's probably more influential than I realise.

Haha, yeah I think that there are other artists who would better deserve to get the title of "best song of the 80s" than Bon Jovi. Maybe Prince or Michael Jackson, or someone who wasn't part of a hair band. The song is still fun, though, so I'll give it that.

I agree with your husband. I think people don't give Janet enough credit because she is compared with Michael a lot and his vocals are a lot stronger, however she is still very talented in her own right. She does a lot with her choreography and even if her vocal range isn't very wide, she still does a lot with the range she has.

The other thing about Janet is that she was so much more prolific than Michael. I have a 2CD Best Of and it is banger after banger. It's so brilliant. I read a great article on recording of Scream and Michael and Janet would come into the studio without the other one knowing, just to re-record their vocals to be better than the other. They both had such drive to create amazing music and I think that Michael gets that credit whereas Janet seems a little serious and poppy maybe?

hehe "serious" and "poppy" sound like polar opposites, but I think it is a good way to describe her. I think she's just about as poppy as Michael, and they sound alike in so many ways. That is very interesting that you would consider her more prolific. I'm pretty sure that she will outlive Michael at this point so it will be interesting to see how she continues her career in the future.

Bohemian Rhapsody 100% could not have been top song of the 80's. It came out in 1975 xD

I mean that I was thinking about using Bohemian Rhapsody as an answer to "Song you think is overplayed/overhyped" because I think it's just about as overplayed as "Livin' on a Prayer"

Oh! Now I gotcha!

Queen certainly did lots of music in the 80's so I have heard people lump it into the 80's before. I super don't actually like the 80's meanwhile. I'm not sure there can be too much overplaying of that song xD

Now "Never Gonna Give You Up" on the other hand. I swear half the time if I hear actual radio I am being Rickrolled.
