Trip info: Italy and Spain

Aug 13, 2009 16:54

As promised, here's a post with information about my vacation, which is now about a week away. The first half of the trip, Italy, will be done with the boyfriend; for the second half, in Spain, I'll be on my own. I'm a bit nervous, because this will be my first time in a country where I don't speak the language and I don't have anyone with me to ( Read more... )

Cool. If I can help you with the Spanish branch of your trip, just ask me :D I live in Zaragoza, and although we also have a Moorish palace, we're not that terribly known abroad.

The average person on the street here can manage some basic English, but the older generation (50 years old +) might be better at French, so try it too. People dealing with tourists will have better skills, hopefully.

It's funny you should mention Zaragoza; a few weeks ago on the subway, I ended up helping out a tourist who happened to be from there.

Ack, I forgot to mention where in Spain I'll be going (besides the Alhambra)! More specifically, I'll be in Seville, Granada, and Cordoba, each for a couple of days. I'm seeing pretty much all the major historic sites, but I know next to nothing about the contemporary cities. If you've been down there and have recommendations for fun things to do or places to eat, those would be great. Thanks!

I'd warn you that, even though the worst of the summer is over, you should be prepared for 35ºC and hotter in Seville. Try to get out of the sun between noon and 17:00h or so. Granada is in the mountains, so it's cooler. Bring a jacket ( ... )

Oh, and be careful with pickpockets in the really touristy areas, especially if you look the part. Socks and sandals will definitely mark you as a target ^_^;;

I hope you have a blast of a good time on your trip! Take a bunch of pictures. I remember Italy had nice transportation that were easy to fallow. Pompeii had an odd feel, but I was overjoyed to see it in person.

Are you going to Venice? Florance has the renaissance feel and San Gimignano has the medieval walled city.

By the way, Italian is closer to French. I had crash coursed Italian for my trip, and my brain remember my French classes, So, I had a French accent to my Italian XD Most of the time Italians thought I was from France, hahaha
