Lorne and Cadman (and any other SG personnel) travel via a quantum mirror to an alternate reality where Laura was adopted by a different family - the Fontana famiy, instead of the Cadmans. Lorne is not taken aback by Tess Fontana having a PhD., but he can't get over the fact that she bleached her hair. Because, Laura's red hair is beautiful. SRLSY, alternate realities and the wackiness that is Eureka doesn't make him skip a beat, but why would Tess do that to Laura's hair? She's perfect as she is!
