You are right that Ethan Hawke's character is kind of a sad sack loser. I still find him charming, and moreover, believable. I thought that Julie Delpy's character was sometimes too-good-to-be-true, but they highlight her flaws a little more effectively in Before Sunset.

Also, one thing that I love about the scene where she says he kisses like an adolescent is the way he looks at her when she says it. Like it makes him simultaneously mortified and even more in love with her. Then again, I am googity-goo times a billion in response to this movie.

The fake phone call scene was up there on my favorite moments in the movie. I agree completely with your facial assessment. Also, I loved that she used French onomatopoeia for a phone ringing.

So weird... Joel suggested we put that movie on last night but we didn't get around to it.

Oh man I am SUCH a talker. I am in mid sentence when a new perspective dawns on me. I just wish I was better at speaking... ah well.
