I was going to post this friends only but I want the world to know my anger. So you, the general public will have to deal with my profanity.
Tuesday at work I get this email:
Dear Laura:
Thank you for taking course this fall.
However, fall 2007 tuition is $600 for each credit hour.
Alumni credit is $100 each course for art and science courses only.
Introduction to Biology is not an art or science course.
Your student account has $220 balance due. Your bill will be sent on 9/18/07 to your billing address.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Chicky-Poo Minion at the Bursars Office.
That email is copy pasted, note the engrish that is the first sentence.
1) I'm taking Introduction to Microbiology. I took Introduction to Biology four years ago.
2) In her feeble attempt at English I think she means the "college of arts and sciences" aka the River Campus, since my class is at the med school. Microbio (and even intro to bio!) are both science classes.
3) This is was sent to my urmc work email and not my mail.rochester.edu email which I listed for the class I'm taking.
WTF! JCPenny's doesn't email you at work and say "hey, about that sweater you bought, we undercharged you for it and we need another $20 if you're going to keep it." Only the f*ing U of R will try to charge you expost facto for tuition. Watch in another twenty years they're going to email all of you letters stating "if you'd like to keep your diploma we'll need a $100 dollar per-year service fee retro active to when you graduated. Please fork over $2000 if you'd like to retain your diploma with the University."
I spoke with Kevin from Alumni relations yesterday on the phone. He was actually very pleasant. He's going to try to advocate for me getting my $100. Although he's admittedly fairly new, he says I'm the first person he's heard of using the $100 benefit and he says that they've only been representing all the schools for a couple months and as I know things aren't well integrated. The website says "Alumni may deduct $100 from the cost of each credit-bearing course, whether audited or take for credit...These discounts apply to non-matriculated students only." I'm taking the class non-matriculated and it doesn't say anything about which school the class(es) must be at. And what really irks me, is although my class is at the medical school and therefore logged as a med school class, its all undergraduate bio majors from the river campus!
I was exceptionally bent out of shape when I first received this email.

TODAY's saga involves trying to get finger printed for a new job (more later when I'm not pissed). I thought they'd finger print me yesterday while I was there but I was mistaken. All they said was I needed them done (but not cleared) to start and they didn't know when any of us would be on the schedule. If I'm not mistaken it could be as early as next week Wednesday. So this morning I make it my job to figure out how I'm going to pull this off.
1) I call the Honeoye Falls town office. They were very pleasant and apologetic that they didn't do it and tried to brain storm some other places I could call.
2) I call the U of R, since my hand out from the job says call your college.
a) First call Human Resources, this seems logical to me. The lady was the WORLDS BIGGEST BITCH and was extremely sassy with me. She asked "well do you know who hired you??" WTF. No I don't, they were wearing a mask and said if I got finger printed and took my clothes off they'd give me a million dollars. WTF?! Who doesn't know where they were hired. This lady was not just unhelpful she was provoking, as if trying to make me feel like an ass for calling her. You're human resources bitch, you're suppose to *help people*, I don't care if your quote primary function is to sort out pay roll.
b) I call employment at the U of R. She said she'd transfer me to someone and it just rang and rang and rang.
c) I try U of R security. They're like psh, we don't do that (like where ever did you get that idea) call the police.
Colleen said she got hers done at Naz, by Naz security and they were really helpful. But I don't know my way around Naz anymore than I do State Police buildings. So
3) I try calling the state police and get 911, since their number chaged. Whoops, so sorry. Finally I get the right number for the actual police, since three are listed. They're like "oh yeah were open 10-5 no appointment needed." But then I get to thinking and I call back and talk to a different cop person about the ink washing off and whether or not I could do it before work. She's like, oh yeah not a problem. But then I talked to Colleen and she said she needed all this ID stuff but now its on the computer and I should only need my license. So I call them back, a third time, and I get the lady again, who seems a smidge irritated, and I ask her what I need for ID. She says "only your license and the cards," WHAT CARDS? Apparently, and they failed to mentioned in my pervious two conversations that I need to have the finger-print cards when I go to do it. They don't have them and quote "your employer should have given them to you." WTF, no one said this and my employer did not give them to me. So I go online and have ordered them and now have to wait for them to arrive and lord knows when I'm going to get scheduled for at this job or when I'll actually get the cards and find time to drive to Scottsville road during business hours! ARRRRRGGGGGGG.
