{Mao and Intetsu}
{Hospital, of course.}
{Rated PG}

Word had started to make its way around the school that Mao was in the hospital but no one would tell him exactly why. He eventually had to ask his friends homeroom teacher to which he told him he attempted suicide. At first the poor boy didn’t know why his friend would do such a thing until he remembered hearing that his friend passed away. That Motsubaki boy he met at the hospital that day.

Intetsu left his house and took the bus all on his own to get to the hospital to meet up with his friend. He carried a bag with him that was filled with many gifts for the other. If Mao was feeling sad then he was going to bring a little bit of happy to make his world feel much better.

Once he got to the hospital he asked for directions to the room and knocked on the door when he got there. He didn’t know if the other was sleeping or not so he was going to be quiet until he got a response.

Mao was antsy, glaring at the sleeping nurse to his left and wanting so desperately to shake her so she'd get him out of there. He was so ready to leave that he'd lied to the psychiatrist and told her he was completely fine, that it had just been a simple mistake and he was good to go.

But he was pretty sure they all said that and it had been therefore a useless attempt.

There was a knock on the door that he barely caught through his frenzy of thoughts- someone with food again? He wasn't really hungry, but visitors were good.

"Uh... I'm here?"

Opening the door, Intetsu poked his head in with a small smile on his face. He waved a little as he walked over to the bed and looked at his friend. How did a person look after they attempted suicide?

”Hi Mao,” he said. “I brought you some gifts.” A lot of gifts actually. He kind of went a bit over board with the gift buying.

Intetsu?? Mao wasn't sure why he was so surprised about Intetsu visiting; they were friends, after all. But still...

Maybe he just hadn't expected Intetsu to...
get it.

And how could he possibly explain any of this to someone he didn't want to understand, if he should ask?

"O-oh, really? Thank you." He was really far too sweet for a place like this.

The boy nodded as he sat himself down in the chair by the bed and put the bag in his lap. He always liked giving gifts to people so a large smile was spread on his face. The first item he pulled out was a slice of cake his friend picked out at the bakery. He wasn’t sure if Mao liked sweets but he had a feeling the other would at least like this. He sat it on the bed before pulling out one of his favorite book that he loved to read when he was feeling down. Digging through the rest of the bag he pulled out a box of Power Ranger band aids and held them up.

”Okay..I know this might sound silly but to me it doesn’t.” He opened the box and dug through them to find a band aid that he knew had the red ranger on it. Opening it he put the band aid on his friends hand and pointed at it. “I got you Power Rangers because they don’t give up. Whenever you feel like you can’t keep fighting just think of them.” He took out a band aid for himself and put it on his hand. “We’ll both keep fighting.”

Mao was simply stunned speechless. How did people like Intetsu exist? Sure, he was immature as all fuck because of something that had gone insanely wrong in his development, but there was something sort of... deep about it.

And perhaps Mao would be able to sleep at night if he were able to slap a bunch of Red Ranger bandaids over his scars.

"W-wow, you're sweet." He wouldn't cry, because that would be scary for the both of them and Nurse Bitchfucker would probably kick Intetsu out, but he almost wanted to.

A small blush crossed the boys face as he sat the bag on the side of the bed knowing Mao would look through them later. He looked up at his friend and pointed to the boy that he sat on the other’s bed.

”That’s my favorite book. So please take care of it okay?” He smiled a bit before giving a small glance at the sleeping nurse. “Mao we’re friends so if you need someone to talk to you can talk to me. I mean I guess I might not be able to understand everything but friends are there for each other right?”

"Of course I will..."

...Talk to Intetsu? The idea seemed insane, not that he'd tell him that. But he had trouble talking to anyone, even Olivia. The closest he'd gotten was that morning he'd been falling apart in her kitchen, not really saying anything relevant or coherent.

He just didn't know how.

"Thank you." He swallowed. "You don't need to worry about me."

He nodded his head even though he was going to worry even a little. He only had a few friends and he always worried about them.

”When do you get released? Maybe we could go see a movie or something?” Maybe keeping Mao around happy things would keep him from trying to hurt himself again? Intetsu was going to have to ask Dr. Shiroyama a few things about the subject.

"I don't know. Whenever they decide I'm sane..."

A movie? He'd see about that. Though, there was something about Intetsu that was distinctly calming in a different way than everyone else, possibly because the boy was to daft to walk on eggshells...

"...Hey, Intetsu, I need to tell you something."

“Yeah?” He looked a little confused because he didn’t have a clue as to what his friend was going to tell him. What was there to tell him? Was he moving away? Did he not want to be his friend? Did he need him to water his plants? He stopped trying to think of all the possible things and just sat and listened.

"Some things are going to change..."

A lot.

"Uh... I won't be going back to school after this."

And he'd cried about it for about 20 minutes before realizing he didn't care. As long as he had Kyo and what he'd learned, he didn't care; what was the point? It wasn't like he was going to make something particularly great of himself regardless.

Intetsu stared at the other completely crushed. Now that Mao wasn’t going to be at school anymore he was going to be all alone. First his parent’s were separating and now he was going to be ‘separated’ from his friend at school. A small whimper escaped the boy as he looked down at his hands in his lap and blinked back tears. He just nodded his head in response to the statement to show that he was listening. He didn’t think that he would be able to say anything at the moment. He just grabbed another band aid and put it on his other hand.

Mao felt horrible, harsh nails clawing up his insides and ripping what remained of his heart to shreds. That look in Intetsu's eyes was simply crushing, and he hated that he'd put it there...

But it wasn't entirely his fault, right? It was his parents that were making him leave.

"You'll be okay..."

He'd ask Kyo to see to it. If he couldn't help Temari then he'd help Intetsu.

“Mmhmm…” he muttered as he held up his hands with his band aids. Yeah, he’d be okay, he had his Power Ranger band aids. He rubbed his eyes a little and looked up at his friend smiling, just barely. He just had to keep telling himself that everything was okay but he was scared it wouldn’t work. It didn’t for his parent’s marriage.

”We can still hang out right?”

"Of course."
...Eventually.

"Um..." He rubbed his eyes. "Th-the reason is my parents... um..." They thought he was diseased, or perhaps that he was a disease himself. Whatever he was, he was to be locked away for good.

"I'm... leaving without them knowing."

He swallowed.

"And I need somewhere to go for the first night or two, so... do you think I could come by your house?"

It would make sense to go with Olivia, of course... but he wasn't sure if he was ready to face everything he was so familiar with just yet. Being with Intetsu was just easy.

“Wha..? Uh…” That sure caught the boy off guard. He wasn’t sure if his parent’s would allow that but maybe he could just do like Mao was doing and sneak his friend in with out his parents knowing. Its not like they would notice anyway, they’ve been so busy arguing through their lawyers that they barely noticed the boy anymore.

“You can stay as long as you’d like,” he told the other with a smile. It was going to be like having a brother staying with him or something. “Just let me know when you get out I guess.”

Thank God. He smiled. "Thank you. It won't be long, I'll just need to get myself together before I can..."

...face everyone and everything his else. Ruki, Kai, Olivia's worrying and doting, his feelings for Kyo... for a few days, he just wanted to blank out and watch some fucking kid movies before he got back to trying to live.

"Yeah. Thanks. Um, I'll call."

Intetsu smiled at his friend and gave thumbs up before standing to his feet. He wasn’t sure how long he could stay so he was probably going to wander the strip mall before heading home once he knew his parent’s were through hating each other for the night.

”I guess I’ll go for now? Don’t forget to look through the rest of the bag.” He pointed at it on the floor before he looked at his friend and soon to be roommate. He’d just have to make sure not to blab about it to anyone.

Mao nodded. "Thank you so much, Intetsu..." He was a lot less agitated than he had been before, even though the slightly content feeling would fade as soon as it was just him and that fucking nurse, even worse than the one Reita had scared off.

...But at least he had a plan fully developed. First he would go to Intetsu's, then to Olivia's... and finally, if Kyo still wanted him, to his place.

For a long while, hopefully.

"I'll see you soon, okay? Take care of yourself."

“You too!” he replied with a smile holding up one of his hands. He was so excited to have his friend over that he didn’t know what to do. He waved to his friend before he quickly walked out the room. He was going to have to get supplies for a ‘house warming’ party.
