The Big Read reckons that the average adult has only read 6 of the top 100 books they've printed.

1.) Look at the list and bold those you have read.
2.) Italicize those you intend to read.
3.) Underline those you LOVE.
4.) Put an asterisk next to the books you'd rather shove hot pokers in your eyes than read.

I was in elementary school in the late 60s-early 70s, and nobody assigned The Little Prince in any language, but it was held up as some great parable and I just didn't get it. Oh, well. I read all the other books for school you did, but luckily my school was a bit more organized than yours; I only had to read them once apiece in 12 years!

I don't know if it was disorganization, or the fact that all 3 of those books had movies made from them around the same time...and yep, we were forced to watch those movies in school ( ... )

I was feeling very well read while looking at the top 10, then started feeling less so as the list went on. But if average is 6/100, I guess I'm still well read, relatively speaking.

I used to be a voracious reader, haven't had time lately though...

I think I deserve extra points for having read all of the Bible AND all of Shakespeare by the time I started junior high! ;-)

Definitely! *gives points*

Ferretbrain is having a "Bard-a-thon" where they're reading the plays in reverse order of famousness and podcasting on them. So far it's quite entertaining. I think I'll have to read Pericles now, because it sounds like cracky fun.
