[The knock at the door startles Una so much that she actually knocks over her cup of tea, spilling it all over her lap. The curse and jump that follow spook Dios into scampering off the couch and under her desk. Cranky and now damp, she sighs and goes to the door, preparing to tell whoever it is that it had better be important or they can sod right-

Oh. It's Rhade.

Her expression goes from mutinous to relieved in a moment, and she smiles weakly.]

Gaheris. Come in, please.

[She steps aside to let him in and closes the door behind him. Dios ventures out from under the desk, tail wagging.]

[He raises his brows at the curse, and they're still raised when she opens the door. But he relaxes when she smiles that weak smile, gently stepping in.]

I'm sorry for interrupting. Hello there. [The last bit to the little white dog as it creeps out.] Do you need a towel?

[Dios trots over for head-scritches, Rhade being one of the people he likes. Una waves her hand, a dismissive gesture. She seems more vague, more distracted than usual.]

It's nothing, nothing at all; I just spilled my tea. I'll just put something dry on. Have a seat, if you like.

[She goes back to her bedroom, not bothering to close the door behind her-nothing he hasn't seen before-and eventually decides she can't be arsed to properly dress again. She removes the tea-damp blouse and trousers and slips into her blue silk dressing-gown. As she does so:]

How are you? Get through the last few days all right, then?

Ah... yes. I only hit Narvin once and it wasn't even hard enough to hurt him. [A little joking he hopes will make her feel better. He glances sympathetically after her as he sits on her couch. But looks away and bends down to scratch Dios before he can be caught.]

O'Brien mentioned in some vague sense something had happened to him.

[That's probably it. He likes her as she is. She's a protector, and she failed at protecting. She's probably feeling the weight of it. He doesn't want her to turn into him, with all the burdens of failures dragging her down.] This month has been entirely unkind to you. I say in understatement.
