The handyman finally showed up just before 3, and didn't leave until almost 5. He was a perfectly nice guy (and he got quite excited when a young buck walked across my backyard) but he barely spoke any English so we had to communicate by using Google translate on his phone (which worked well enough, but communication couldn't be spontaneous), and

My only question is...why would they hire somebody who doesn't know how to do the repairs required?
Do you know what his mother tongue was?

The guy said he was from Ukraine. I got the impression from the website (a handyman site called Thumbtack) that it's a Ukrainian group who possibly use recent immigrants from Ukraine.

Waiting around home for repairmen is the bane of my existence! And I've been doing way too much of it this fall! Glad he finally came, but it has to be annoying that he really didn't know how to fix it, and you're not sure how long the "fix" will last.

I recently put up a thermal curtain on my deck door and I can tell the difference in how warm it keeps the dining room at night.

All my windows are double glazed except for the one on the back door, and I'm sure a lot of cold seeps in there. I should really put some kind of cover on it. Ironically, all the double glazed windows have blinds but the one single glazed window has no cover.
