Characters :: Sasuke, Sakura and BEAR!
Setting :: Night before Sakura reaches the rebellion camp in the woods.
Rating :: PG, nothing bad. Aside from creepy Sasuke O_O
Summary :: Sakura is pursued by a hungry bear and is saved by Sasuke. How will they react?

Sakura made her way from Kakashi who was setting up camp for the night, headed for a water source to wash up a bit for the night. Who thought I would actually go through with this? she sighed to herself, running her fingers through her long, pink hair. Taking a seat by the small lake, she dipped her toes in, finding the water slightly chilly, but decided to suck it up or stay dirty. "I guess I'll just have to do a quick rub down." She took a deep breath and jumped in with her clothes on. Sure she trusted that Kakashi wouldn't peek at her, but who knew what else roamed the woods at night? Shuddering at the thought of bandits drooling at her, their eyes glowing with temptation and lust, caused Sakura to roll up the long sleeve of the white shirt, scrubbing as fast as she could, inside and out. A huge shiver ran down her spine as the water seemed to grow colder by the second, and finally jumped out of the lake, dripping wet when she decided she at least got the smell off.

She sat at the edge of the lakeside for a while, running her big toe along the surface to play with the ripples it caused. Glancing up at the moonlight, the pink-haired woman smiled. The moon had never looked so beautiful.

Suddenly, she jumped, hearing a rustling in the bushes. Turning her head in the direction of the disturbance, her eyes widened as she barely made out the word, "K-Kakashi?" She gripped the grass around her tightly, hoping that was all it was. Perhaps he was just checking on her to make sure she was still safe. Yeah...th-that's all... Gulping, she crossed her fingers, hoping she was right.

A hairy paw emerged from the bush to the girl's left, and a looming figure of a black bear followed, its dark, beady eyes fixed on the pink-haired girl, a low growl emitted from its throat. The mouth was partly open, revealing gleaming teeth and a tongue - the pink flesh nested in between the jaws, the tip raised, leaning towards the side of its mouth. The tiny branches in the bush pulled at the bear's stiff hair, breaking off and hanging on to the black mess as the animal moved forward, taking slow, tentative steps towards Sakura.

Sakura's eyes widened at the sight of the huge, dark beast. Just. My. Luck! She stepped back slowly, trying to think of how to deal with the gigantic animal. Okay, climbing trees would not be a good idea. Running away equals bad. Screaming would only entice him. Gah! What's left!? Shall I pray? She was tempted to rip the pink hair right out of her head in frustration. Yeah, get angry and you'll never get away alive!

Taking deep breaths to calm herself, she decided to take it slow and walk back towards camp, keeping her eye on the bear that threatened to possibly swipe her head off if she made a wrong move. Her clothes dripped from being soaked in the lake and clung to her skin, making her aware of the cold, night air that made her goosebumps poke through the thin, white fabric of Naruto's shirt. The breathing grew struggled when she stumbled over a root, causing her to swiftly fall on her back. Shoot! She slowly crawled backwards, realizing her position drove the bear to approach faster than before. At this rate, it would take a miracle to save me!

The beast's black eyes never left the girl as it moved closer, each step making indents on the soft earth.

The pink-haired girl continued to scoot backwards, eventually backing up against a tree. Oh how things just loved to work against her!

When the bear approached too close, she could only sit stare into his dark orbs, curl up into a ball and let out a blood-curdling scream that would hopefully call Kakashi or anyone nearby to help her. She hated being helpless, but she just didn't know what to do. She faintly remembered something along the lines of playing dead when encountered by a bear, but that thought quickly fled her mind as soon as it appeared. "Someone, anyone...HELP MEEEE!!!!"

Those black claws rose and the bear lunged forward, aiming for the girl's face; but before it could reach her, a sword pierced through the thick, short column of its neck. Black, beady eyes rolled in their sockets and the mouth hung open, that rough, pink tongue protruded outward, and the animal took its last breath, dying with almost no sounds save for a choked noise in the back of its throat. The corpse fell to the ground, and the sword retreated back, leaving a trail of crimson blood trickling down on the trampled grass.

Sakura's eyes widened at the sight, crimson speckles splattered on her long, pink hair and pale face. Gasping for air, shocked at what just happened, she caught a glimpse of something shine, dripping with the bear's blood, a sword. Raising her emerald orbs to her savior she met a pair of onyx eyes, hoping to God that she wasn't next on his list of victims. It wasn't unusual for bandits to wander the woods at night, at least that was what she heard from the many alcoholics that raved on about pointless stories in the bar.

Biting her lip, she focused on the figure that she couldn't quite make out from where he stood. If only her "savior" stepped forward into the moonlight...

A quiet, wet squelching noise left the bleeding hole on the bear's skin as Sasuke's sword left the wound. Dark eyes swept over the crimson color staining the silver blade, to the corpse of the bear laying motionless by the river bank, and finally towards the girl he had rescued. (Unintentionally, of course. Sasuke never cared if anybody lived or died. It was just a coincidence that he had passed by this place and decided that bear meat would last him a day or two.) The pale moonlight brightened just as the cloud shielding the white disk drifted away, and the silver rays fell on Sasuke's face.

Blinking at the figure as he walked into the moonlight, his sword dripping with blood, she stared at the unique features of the boy, swearing to herself that he appeared familiar somehow. Shaking the thought out of her mind, she took in the appearance of his face, the unusual beauty soaking deep into her mind. If he hadn't just slaughtered a huge creature in front of her very eyes she would have probably fallen head over heels right then and there, but there was something about his eyes that made her question his sanity. Even then, he was still radiant in the moonlight.

Barely choking out words, fear still in her throat, she managed to let out a, "Uhm...thank you, I guess?" She seemed suspicious as to whether he meant to save her or not. In fact, it appeared as if he hadn't noticed her until but a few seconds after the kill.

Sasuke promptly ignored the girl, focusing instead on the drying blood on his blade.

Gee, what a delightful fellow, Sakura thought to herself, sarcasm obvious, I mean, especially with the psycho-killer look and all. "So, uhm...who are you? I'm..." she paused for a moment, not sure if she should give up her name or not. The pink-haired girl decided to come up with a pretend alias, at least, for now. "Kira. It's uhm...a pleasure to meet you?"

It was difficult trying to get over the fact that he had just mercilessly slaughtered a gigantic bear, yet introducing herself to a guy bathed in the blood of his prey was something even more difficult to deal with. This...is going to be awkward.

"You don't need to know who I am."

A sweep of his wrist and the sword slid back into its sheath, tucked away in Sasuke's belt with his other hand on the guard. He cast the girl an empty glance before turning away. (He saved her only on a whim, there was no need for useless introductions.)

Raising her bow, thinking to herself, Wow...for a looker he is certainly a jerk. she sighed. "Ah, I see. So I'm not special enough to even deserve a name in return." Crossing her arms she gave Sasuke her most fake smile she could muster, "Hasn't your mother ever taught you that in order to trust someone you must first give your name and receive their own in return?"

At this, a corner of Sasuke's lips twitched. His neck turned at a small angle, just enough for him to be able to look at the pink-haired girl out of a corner of his eye. "Trust?" He smirked. "Why should you trust me? And why should I trust you?" It was ridiculous and stupid - that idea of trusting someone at the first meeting. This girl was truly naive and gullible.

"What is so wrong with trust?" Sakura stared into his deep orbs, her gentle, bright eyes in contrast with his harsh, dark ones. She knew she was naive to trust people so easily, but a world without trust was a world that would never be united. It was a world that Sakura dreamed of since she was a little girl. "Or are you just afraid to live a life without paranoia?"

Suddenly, Sasuke felt irritation rising inside himself. Why was he lingering around here, listening to this girl talking about trust? It was uncharacteristic. It was obscene. It was unthinkable. There was no reason why he should put up with her nonsense. He had lived and survived without trusting other people, not to mention that when he trusted someone, that very person had betrayed him. Trust... was something Sasuke had forgotten.

"No one is worthy of my trust."

He threw the girl a scathing glare and whirled away, ending the conversation.

Staring at the shadow disappear deep into the forest, Sakura couldn't move. Wouldn't move. "Strange boy..." A blush graced her cheeks, she was always into the mysterious type, but then again, this boy was just far to mysterious for her liking. But that didn't mean she did not hope to meet him again.
