[Point in time taken from canon] Maka finds herself in Somarium right after the struggle against Giricco and the golem in Episode 27. Maka was recovering in the hospital at Shibuzen and dreamed herself into Somarium. Oops.

Her father is known simply as Death Scythe by many, although before he and his wife was able to collect 99 kishin eggs and a witch's soul in order for him to acquire the title, he was known as Spirit. He is considered the current strongest death scythe and, especially ever since the kishin escaped and all of the death scythes in the world were called to Death City, Spirit has been hanging around in order to be able to serve as Shinigami's weapon. This suits his purposes quite well because he is able to stick around and keep an eye on his daughter. To say that her relationship with her father is strained would be an understatement. Her entire life she watched him abandon her and her mother in order to spend time with other women.
Maka's mother, Kami, is a strong meister, famous for her invention of the 'Demon Hunter' technique. She replaced Dr. Stein as Spirit's meister and is who made Maka's father into a Death Scythe. Since the divorce, Kami has been traveling the world on secret missions. Occasionally she sends her daughter post cards from far-off places. Maka keeps them in a special album.
When Maka joined Shibuzen she decided that she wanted to follow the path of a meister. It is her dream to become a great scythe shokunin just like her mother. It took her a while to make friends at first but eventually she met Soul Eater Evans and he became her weapon and most trusted friend. Maka has worked very hard to turn Soul into a death scythe but it has been a bumpy road. Being very diligent and hardworking, she was able to collect 99 kishin eggs but when it came time to acquire the witch's soul, they confused an unusually magical cat for a witch. The cat, however, having more than nine lives, eventually came to live with both Soul and Maka, who were sharing a flat. Make is not one to hold a grudge.
On an extra credit mission to take down a serial killer in Italy, Maka first met Crona who at the time was still under the evil witch, Medusa's control. Crona, alone and afraid, attacked Maka and Soul with intense insanity. During the fight, Maka realized that blocking blows from Crona was hurting Soul and thus at a moment when a deadly strike was coming, she refused to block. But Soul would not allow anyone to hurt his shokunin and in human form, took the slice to his body. For some time Maka was depressed by what happened and by what Soul did. She was troubled and even jealous of the strength of her friends. She was determined to find a way to become stronger
Maka always fights fear with courage. Her most courageous moment occurred when Medusa was working to free the Kishin, she told Black-Star to allow her to face Crona who was one of the obstacles for group of shokunin and buki that weren't caught in Medusa's trap. Maka was determined to face Crona and defeat her. However Maka doesn't come in with a predetermined plan and in the end it is through compassion and kindness that Maka is able to defeat the demon weapon that Crona was and become friends with him. Having become infected by the black blood that Soul had become infected with when he had been slashed, Maka was able to be swallowed up by the same insanity that was affecting Crona. While also becoming very powerful a fighter, Maka was also able to be able to understand Crona and reach him.
In order to stop the Kishin from escaping, Maka went so far as to even grab onto one of the long strips of flesh that had become the Kishin's clothing and got dragged out into the night, desperately trying to stop it. Unfortunately Maka and the others were unable to stop the Kishin from awakening and escaping.
In the aftermath, Maka and the others try and simply carry on. They pass the time with a bit of basketball. Maka does her best to try and help Crona adjust to normal life and she is always kind and cheerful to her new cherished friend. However since the Kishin escaped, new villains are surfacing due to the madness released and Maka, Soul, and Crona go to battle against Giricco. During the fight, Maka is caught up in strong spider's silk which immobilizes her. While recovering in the hospital, she dozes and ends up dreaming herself into Somarium.
[Personality] Dr. Stein once described her as "earnest hardworker". This is indeed her nature. Very serious and studious and smart. Other adjectives for her may include kind, passionate, occasionally hotheaded, and optimistic.
For the most part she is very level headed but if she gets frustrated enough, she becomes as angry as any and will yell and throw punches and be thoroughly dramatic. She is kind and caring to many but it takes a while for her to truly trust someone. Boys are very hard for her to trust after having seen her father betray her mother countless times.
Maka fights fear with courage
[Abilities] Physically, Maka isn't very strong. She can take a hit and throw a punch but beyond that she doesn't do much damage. Occasionally she can also deliver the terrifying Maka Chop. When she is paired up with Soul, however, together they can use Witch Hunter.
Maka can also use Soul Perception, which allows her to perceive the nature of one's soul and gauge their strength. She can also use the ability to track down people whose soul's she is familiar with.
After Soul became infected with black blood, Maka also became affected. When she awakens the power of black blood, she becomes battle-crazed and incredibly powerful.
[Affection] Maka is a very sweet person and probably wouldn't reject very much unless it was entirely innapropriate or comming from her Papa.
