[1] Pete's POV
Ok, seriously, these people kinda piss me off. At least the "bed" as Gabe calls it, is comfortable. But it’s not hot enough in here. There's cold air coming from somewhere.
"Brrrr," I say, shivering.
"You’re cold? How is that possible?" Ryland asked me. I made some motion with the body that seemed to make sense to them.
"Well, seeing as he's naked, with the draft of the air conditioner directly on him, it's not hard to be cold, especially since he did tell us he likes the heat," Gabe answers for me. This one's a bit smarter then the other, I thought.
"...That might explain a bit," Ryland replies.
I look at my body again and I try to figure out what it can do. I start moving all around and it seems easy to do, but I don't know why Master said it would be hard to learn this body; it seems easy. I just need to know what they are and what they're used for.
"Umm... what are these things attached to me? There’s two of them." I say, moving the parts.
"Those?" Ryland asks me, grabbing them before I fell. "Those are arms and hands with fingers." He points to each of them as he tells me what they are.
"Oh. How do they work? What do they do?" I ask, wanting to know more. Both of them just stare at me. "What?" I ask them.
"How do you not know what they are?" Gabe asks me. Ok, on second thought, this one is no smarter then the other one. And I’m still cold.
"I'm not from here, I told you. I’m from Sunaru. I'm still cold," I state to them. They looked at each other again, then Gabe gets up and turns something and I started to feel comfortable again. Not so cold anymore.
"Ok, the air conditioner's off... comfortable?" Gabe asked me, sarcastically.
"Yup. Thanks," I answer back.
"Ok, everyone knows what these are, dude, it's something you learn growing up," Ryland replies to my previous question.
"Not on Sunaru. We learn about our own bodies, so this is very different from what I know. I miss my other body; I knew how to work it."
"Ok. That’s it. I HAVE to know! What is Sunaru? What kind of body are you talking about?" Gabe asked, seemingly getting fed up.
"Sunaru is my home, second star to the left from Betelgeuse. And the body I'm talking about is my cobra body. Everyone on Sunaru is a cobra."
Gabe’s Pov:
I took a loud sigh. I just turned off the AC and I know that it’s going to get hot in here soon. This is so awkward and shocking for me to handle. As I stared in the distance to think of something to say, I hear Ryland’s cell phone going off and he picks it up right away. He sounded like he was talking to his mom and his voice sounded a little off-key. While he talked, I turned my head towards Pete and he did the same.
“So…. are you okay with us calling you Pete?” I asked.
“Sure, I…I, uh, guess,” he said, replying back.
“Do you have any other questions?”
“Yeah.” I stared at him as he was thinking of other things to ask as Ryland flipped his phone back into his pocket and looked at me.
“Sorry, Gabie. My mom needs to do something with the car then I have to help her make a casserole for the party she’s going to tonight. I’ll call you later. Sorry, man,” Ryland whispered. This is going to be one long night.
“Sure, call me if you want.” I looked up at him with a half smile. He nodded and walked over and gave me a hug. He walked out of the room and I heard his shoes squeak down the hallway stairs.
“So………”
“So,” Pete echoed.
“Any more questions?”
“Yeah, actually. What’s that thing where you enjoy someone every much?”
“That’s called ‘love,’ Pete.”
“Do you love anyone?” he asked me with those eyes glimmering again. Should I really tell him about my love life?
“I love snakes.”
“Is that all?”
“Yeah, mostly.” I glanced up at him and I immediately saw him blushing and turning his head. Haha! Got him! But no, honestly I do like snakes. I remember in the second grade, we took a trip to the zoo. It was the first time I ever saw one of the biggest snakes in my life, and got excited from that point on.
“How can you show you love someone?”
“By kissing and a lot of other stuff,” I said with a sigh.
“What’s kissing?”
“It’s two people pressing lips together to show affection.” I got up and walked over to him. I grazed a finger over his lips lightly as he showed that he understood, but with shock in his eyes again. He smiled and I placed my hand down into my lap as I sat next to him on the bed.
“Were you ever in what you call ‘love’?” I thought hard about if I should say anything about this. I did have a crush a few years ago, but that didn’t turn into anything. It was weird and useless. He had another crush and he felt like I was stalking him. Loser.
“No... I’ve never been in a relationship.” Fuck! Why did I do that? Telling this to a complete stranger it seems? Why am I so stupid? I mentally hit my head and I saw him look settled; his eyes relaxed and a bit concerned.
“Why? You seem like a person that would.”
I shrugged. Hmm, maybe telling him isn’t so bad after all. I blushed, and saw him grinning, making me look down.
“Uh, Gabe, are you going to show me?” He asked.
“Show you what?”
“Show me how to kiss.”
“I’m sorry, I’ll have to do that later,” I replied as I saw him frowning again. Is it really my fault that I keep hurting him? Silence filled the room; only sighs and breathing traveled around our heads, but that didn’t last long. I heard the front door closing and suddenly I could feel myself shiver with fear and sweat from the nervousness. So much for turning off the AC...
Pete's POV
Lowering my eyebrows in thought about what Gabe said, I heard the front door close. Gabe looks kinda scared.
“Gabriel! It’s so hot in here! Why is your AC off?" I heard someone shout.
"Mami? What're you doing here? I thought you said you guys wouldn't be able to make it?" I hear Gabe, half shouting. Hmm, as he left me in the --what the fuck is this again? Bed? Yes, that’s what Ryland said! Bed!
"BRENDON!!" I blink rapidly. Wow! Gabe sure has a voice on him!
"GABE!!" Ok, I take that back, no one, and I mean no one can beat whoever that was. I slowly try moving to see if I can shift more than just sit here, but it kinda hurts after a bit. I don't know if Gabe plans on coming back or not. I managed to move but I guess I moved too much, because the next thing I know, I’m on the ground. And let me tell you, it hurt. Not the falling part... falling doesn't make me feel anything. It was the sudden stop that gave me so much pain. Ow!
"Oh shit! Stay here! I'll be back in a sec." I hear Gabe saying to whoever was here, then the door flew open, revealing Gabe, looking like he's trying not to laugh. "What are you doing on the floor?" Gabe asks me, sniggering.
"I thought I'd throw a party for myself down here, seeing as it’s actually nice and hot here," I replied with a mix of sarcasm and honesty. He just looks at me.
"Anyway, put these on, and I'll help you downstairs, so you can meet my parents, and my best friend from back home," Gabe said, lurking around handing me stuff. "Let me guess, you don’t know how to put those on?" he asks as I shake my head no. He just sighs.
"You know, I haven’t thought of what I'm gonna say when they ask me about you...” Gabe said wandering off to me. As he came closer, I saw weird items in his arms and his head lowering while he placed the things on me, which were uncomfortable.
"What are these things you're putting on me?" I ask Gabe. He just rolls his eyes and sighs again.
"They're clothes. They help keep you warm plus hide parts of your body people don't want to see," Gabe answers, after he put the clothes on me. "Ok, you look ready enough to come down and meet everybody.”
"I get to meet more humans? Awesome!" I excitedly help myself figure out how to move like Gabe does, and it's easy hard. Seriously. I fall like five times before I stand properly. Ow, if I may say. Finally, I get the hang of it and get to this thing that looks like a mountain.
"Oh, great... You're gonna have fun with these," I hear Gabe mumble.
"What? This mountain?" I asked, as I hear Gabe snigger.
"Dude, these are stairs. You walk on all the pieces sticking out. It’s not like you can just...slither your way up or down them." For the record, I didn’t pout when he said that. "Hold on, maybe Bren can help us. BRENDON!" I wince, because damn! That was way too loud! Two seconds later, I see someone appear.
"Yeah, Gabe? Wha...who's he?" This human asks Gabe.
"This? This is Pete. He had a bit of an accident earlier and is now having trouble walking. Could you help me get him down the 'mountain' as he calls it?”
"Sure, I guess. Oh, your mom left to do some of your shopping when she saw you had like, nothing in your fridge but candy...not that I mind that." This Brendon guy grins, eating something. Gabe raises his eyebrows.
"She went on an hour drive, for like a two-hour shopping spree for groceries, and an hour drive back? So she's gone for four hours?" Gabe asks.
"I guess," Brendon says, with something in his mouth. That reminds me, I'm hungry.
"Ok, then, lets go back to my room then, I don’t want to drag him down the 'mountain'," Gabe responds.
“I'm hungry. Do you have any food? That isn't a mockery to snakes? I don't like what he's eating..." I ask Gabe, while eyeing Brendon's food.
"It's only candy dude, I’m not eating a real snake, and I’m a vegetarian so I don't eat anything living. I take it snakes are your favorite animal?" Brendon tells me, while putting the candy to the side so it’s out of view.
"Well, sorta yeah, but it’s also 'cause I was a snake before this mission I'm on. And you’re a vegetarian? Sweet!" I respond.
