i have such a ridiculous crush on this girl (this is the only picture i can find of her) who is causing trouble at Yale with her art thesis. you can read her explanation of the project here, but the basics are that her senior art thesis was to artificially inseminate herself, take herbal drugs to cause an abortion, then she videotaped herself

that seems to be a common reaction.

i doubt you want an explanation, but:
the project requires a very subtle reading of what's going on, and even she won't admit what part is real and what isn't. the reaction people have to what she has done (in my opinion) is what the art actually is. part of the performance is releasing her press release to the public and describing this story and seeing what the reaction is. whether or not she really impregnated herself is moot because the reaction is the art piece. i mentioned Andy Kaufman in my entry because he did something similar -- his "comedy" performance wasn't necessarily supposed to be funny; the reaction people had to his performance (getting angry or outraged, taking him seriously, threatening him) was the art.
