She has been in Johto long enough, and eavesdropped on enough public feeds to know what that means. She's even been through it herself when Leviathan disappeared some months ago. Mammon, however, is a presence she had never questioned ( Read more... )

U-uu-.. Mammon is gone..?

[ Maria pouts a little - it's fairly noticable she's not really happy about the whole deal. ]

... Is Johto taking everyone away again?

[She pauses before answering, not really sure how to explain something to Lady Maria that she, herself, doesn't entirely understand]

I couldn't say, Lady Maria. The gamemasters can't seem to settle on who stays and who goes.

....

Maybe she'll turn up again like some of the others. If not, I hope that she's, at least, been able to return to the Golden Land to await us.

That's right.. When Maria and everyone else will go home, we'll all be happy in the Golden Land again, right? [ At that she pauses, since-- ] ... Uu-, but that would mean everyone not from our world can't come..

Are you... doing OK? I mean, obviously you're not, but... tell me if there's anything that can be done to improve the situation...

[she looks like she's bolstering herself before she gives him an answer]

It would be useless to dwell on something we can't do anything about, Ryuzaki. I'm sure we'll all be fine.

[it isn't like before. She's not laying in a bed somewhere, soulless and with no guarantee she'd wake.]

...with any luck, she's gone home and will be waiting for us there.

Luck is a terrible thing to rely on. But in the face of futility, what other choice is there?

I find myself wondering, frequently, how long the two of us will remain. And where we'll go when it's over, if it ever ends.

[That's...not something she'd considered, really. She's the type to accept her current situation as permanent until her master says otherwise.]

I'd hope that we would go back to what we were doing before coming here in the first place. [Of course...what she had been doing before coming here was shattering painfully into nothingness after being denied]

I'm sure you'd want to finish school. [she adds, shifting the focus of the conversation a bit in hopes of it landing in a more favorable place]
