Who: Lithuania and Taiwan
When: Morning of the first day they set out.
Where: On Taiwan's boat, on their way to Russia's ship.
What: Conversation over breakfast.
Warnings: ...insulin may be needed?
Taiwan really liked the boat Hong Kong had given her. It was fast, and responsive, and easy to sail, even alone. It really wasn't the best for long journeys and could only hold a small number of people. But since it was just her and Lithuania on the boat, it was basically the perfect size.
She set the controls to autopilot and leaned against the railing, looking out at the morning sun. It wasn't that early, but it hadn't risen very far yet. The sky looked clear, but she'd learned from experience that that didn't count for much here on the Grand Line...
Lithuania could never physically forget his morning routine after living with Russia and America. Both had him up early in the morning, either tidying up or rushing around with paperwork. After getting up, rummaging around Taiwan's kitchen, he was basking in the sun on the deck with a cup of coffee in hand. It was peaceful, not having something or someone to worry about all day. Though, the relaxing thought left him as he remembered where they were heading; Russia's ship, of course. Atleast he could make the best of his momentary relaxation. After day dreaming to forget his upcoming doom, Lithuania noticed Taiwan join him as she walked over to the railing. "Ah, good morning," he paused as he gestured to the mug, "I hope you don't mind me using your kithen."
"Good morning, Liet," she said cheerfully. "It's no problem. I told you you should be making yourself at home!" She laughed, a slight note of scolding in her voice. "Do you want something to eat for breakfast...?"
Fingers strumming against the mug in a slight nervous manner, Lithuania nodded, "Uh, yes. That would be nice...I think I'm acquainted with your kitchen well enough to help...". He suddenly felt intrusive even though he was a guest on board, but the willingness to help was already installed as an automatic reaction.
"Is there anything you'd like in particular?" She took the steps down to the kitchen carefully, balancing herself against the very slight roll and pitch of the deck. "You're limited to what supplies we have..." She says it a bit apologetically. "You really don't have to help..."
"Well, I guess I don't have any preferences in mind...", Lithuania replied as he followed after Taiwan. "Whatever you make is fine, and I can help if you need any assistance." He was trying to be careful on the stairs, making sure not to fall and cause Taiwan any trouble.
"Well..." she opened the door to the kitchen, propping it open to let fresh air through, though there are already big windows open to the morning breeze. "Ah, careful over there, the floor is a little slippery..." She went to the refrigerator and poked her head in inquisitively. "We have eggs, and milk, and bread..."
Taking the slippery floor into great consideration as if it were a mine field, Lithuania watched Taiwan from the doorway as she shifted through the fridge. "I guess...the easiest thing would be to make toast, right?", he chuckled to himself quietly, "America sometimes likes 'French toast' for breakfast, though I don't really see it as being part of France's cuisine." He paused before adding, "I-it's okay if we have something you prefer. I don't mind."
"Okay, toast sounds good to me!" Taiwan brought out the bread, and some sliced fruit. "You should just sit down, Liet, there's not that much to do..." she urged him. "Besides, you're the guest..."
"O-Oh, all right..." Taking a seat at the kitchen table before glancing out the kitchen's window. "It looks sunny today, but do you think it'll stay that way?" He smiled faintly as he remembered the weather at home. "This place is very bizarre..."
"Eheh, I'm hoping we don't run into a blizzard before we get to the...to Russia's ship." She absolutely refused to even think about the ridiculous name. "Though I suppose he has experience with storms..." She brought over a plate of warm toast, and butter and jelly, as well as plates and utensils for the both of them. She also had a bowl of rice porridge for herself. "Do you want to try some...?"
"A-Ah, yes...he does seem to...have a way with the weather." Lithuania shifted slightly out of an uncomfortable habit before taking a piece of toast and zealously smothering it with butter out of another nervous habit. "Um, I'm good. But, thank you for the toast," he mumbled gratefully before taking a bite.
Taiwan took a spoonful of the porridge, eating neatly and efficiently. "Make sure you take some of the fruit too," she urged him. "I checked; I'm pretty sure none of them are the magical ones that have been going around lately..."
Lithuania blinked down at the fruit and then back at Taiwan. "I've heard about those odd fruit...Have you found any before?" He put his toast down to sip at his coffee as he eyed the fruit again. "There's so many off things here. It's like...seeing through England's perspective, I guess, with the 'faeries' and 'unicorns'..."
She set the spoon down in the empty bowl and reached for a piece of cut melon. "No, I haven't; I've been lucky so far, I guess," she shrugged. "I think it's really interesting here; if this is how England feels when people can't usually see the things he sees..."
He nodded before adding on, "I can see why he seems so happy then. This place is very beautiful in itself..." Finishing off the last bites of his toast, Lithuania gave a small smile, "It's really done wonders for Russia, I think..."
"I think it's the heat," Taiwan said with another laugh, and then her expressed turned serious. "Which is why I really hope we don't run into a blizzard. But even so, he seems a lot happier than I've ever seen him." A pause. "I guess he deserves it, too."
"Deserves it...I guess he does," Lithuania nodded as he looked out the window. The sun almost seemed too good to be true. "...T-Taiwan? Do you wish you could go back?", he asked very distantly as he watched the clouds move by.
She stops in the middle of taking another bite of melon and puts it down on her plate. "I'm having a really good time here," she said softly, almost reluctantly, "and it's nice...not to have to think about some things all the time. But..." she blinked a bit furiously, and looked down at the table.
"O-oh, I'm sorry...I just...wanted to know what you thought," Lithuania said apologetically as he turned towards Taiwan. "I-I just see everyone having such a good time and...I've just been conflicted over being here, I guess," he mumbled before pausing awkwardly, "I-I'm having fun here too. And, I don't think...we would be talking like this besides at World Meetings if it wasn't for being here..."
When Taiwan raised her head again, she looked almost perfectly composed, small smile, though her eyes were suspiciously bright. "What do you mean by conflicted?"
Lithuania gave her a nervous glance, noticing that her collected appearance. "I-I just mean that I'm worried about being here. I'm afraid that something might be bad happening to our people while we're away...Or that we'll get so comfortable here that we won't want to go back." He felt his head began to ache again with all his unsaid questions and worrying. "Maybe I'm just overthinking this whole thing..."
Taiwan reached for Lithuania's hand, resting on the table. "You know..." she said very seriously, "the biggest part of...what we are...is the people. If anything truly serious had happened to them, I think we'd know. Here," she brushed her fingers over his hand, "and here," she pointed to her own head with her other hand, "and here," she put her hand over her heart. "We can't control how we got here, and we can't control how we get back but..." She
looked down at her hand, still on his, and snatched it away shyly, blushing bright red. "D-does that make sense...?"
Lithuania's face blushed somewhat as Taiwan withdrew her hand. He was somewhat used to such moments, though never as serious ones, with Poland but that didn't stop his face from turning pink. Or stopping him from finding a particular spot on the table very interesting. "I-I see, it does make sense..." He looked back up at Taiwan before giving her a nervous smile. "S-so, what do you normally do for fun while heading somewhere?"
"Um..." Taiwan's gaze was everywhere but on Liet, casting about for something to say... "I read sometimes, or fold origami, or cook... I have to be careful not to get too distracted, because the ship still needs a lot of attention, and there are always storms..."
Fighting back his blush, Lithuania tapped his fingers against his mug, "Truthfully, I don't know how to fold origami...A-After we clean up, would you mind teaching me?" He wanted to get their minds off of the embarassing situation before they got to Russia's ship.
"I'd love to teach you," she said genuinely, with a happy smile. "I'm sure you'll be good at it."
"I just hope I'll be able to learn fast enough before we get to Russia's ship..." Lithuania was following another automatic reaction as he started collecting the dirty dishes. "Thank you for breakfast, by the way," he said as he moved towards the sink and began washing them.
"Ah wait, you-!" You're the guest, she wanted to say, but she walked over to the sink next to Lithuania, and picked up the hand towel instead. "It wasn't any trouble..." she said, not looking at him.
Lithuania paused momentarily as she joined him at the sink before continuing to clean the dishes. "I wonder how things will be when we get to Russia's ship...."
Taiwan took the plates he handed to her and wiped them dry, stacking them neatly on the shelves. They were a little close... "What do you mean?"
"Well...Depsite the fact that Russia has been doing better in the Grand Line, I can't help but feel that the times on his ship won't be as peaceful as now," he smiled nervously before finishing the last dish.
Lithuania looked a bit lost in thought, and even though he'd finished with it, he wasn't handing the dish over, so she reached over to get it... "I'm sure it'll be all right," she said a bit uselessly. It was Russia. Who knew what would happen...?
He blinked out of his thoughts as Taiwan reached over to dry the last dish. Noticing the small distance between them, Lithuania fumbled with the dish and almost dropped it while handing it over. "S-Sorry...Just worrying too much..."
"Ah, be careful-!" Without thinking, Taiwan reached for the plate just as Lithuania was... Luckily she caught it, and she breathed a sigh of relief before realizing exactly where her hands were. "Um!" But if she let go, it might fall...
"U-Uh..." Lithuania stared momentarily at their overlapped hands. "Ummm, I think I got it...." His face flushed slightly as he felt his hands move past Taiwan's to get a better grip on the dish between her fingers.
"R-right, I'm sorry." Taiwan let go slowly, just in case, and then held out the dishtowel. "C-can I dry it now?"
"Uh, yesh, sure...here...", Lithuania mumbled as he handed over the dish. "I-I'll just be on the deck, okay?"
"O-okay," Taiwan kept her eyes fixed on the dish she was drying, not turning to look at Lithuania. "I-i'll see you there."
Making his way up to the deck, Lithuania pressed a palm to his forehead. "W-what was that all about? It was only a little slip up...", he muttered to himself as he crossed over to the railing. The sun was still shining, but there was a strange darkening cloud in the distance...
