[ the communicator clicks on well before Vin says anything. finally, she takes a breath, and: ]

Tell me -- what's the sky like, where you're from?

What color are the plants? Do you -- have flowers, too? Are these things normal where you used to be, before you came to this world?

You don't have flowers in your world? Not at all?

This world is strange to me, but the plants don't seem to be different from those in my own.

Oh... I'm... sorry.

Don't apologize. It's not your fault and you can't do anything to fix it by saying sorry.

Well...it really depends, doesn't it?

The sky is blue from the ground, or grey. Black in space. Plants are green, unless they're flowers. Then they're all colors.

And that's ... normal, for you, then?

Mm-hmm.

I guess it's a little different for you.

The sky is blue on a clear day, but there's often a lot of gray smog in my city. The plants are usually green, though there's a degree of variety. Some are dark purple, for instance, even the leaves. Mushrooms tend to be grayish. We have lots of flowers. They're pretty normal. Why, what about where you're from?

Mushrooms -- you have mushrooms where you're from too? So at least that's one thing that I'm not alone in knowing.

All my life when I looked up at the sky it was clouded with ash from the ashmounts and the sun was an ugly red thing in the sky. The only time it was different was at night when the mists were out.

And the plants are all sickly things, even the trees, and brown. The only flower I ever saw was a picture someone drew of what they thought one ought to look like.

Ohhhh, Gallifrey had bright, silver-leafed trees and a burnt orange sky at night and the mountains with fields of deep red grass, capped with snow. When the second sun would rise in the south and the mountains would shine, with the silver-leafed trees looking like a forest on fire in the mornings.

Your world had a name besides "the world"?

... it sounds very pretty. I can't imagine what it must have looked like to see it in person.

Of course it had a name! How else would we distinguish it from all the other worlds?

It was absolutely beautiful. It was the Shining World of the Seven Systems.
