Title: Of Love and Undying Flames
Pairing: Kris/Chanyeol
Word Count: 687-ish
A single spark.
Who knew something so small is enough to light a fire? Enough to set off an explosion and to destroy everything in its path?
It was destructive, simply put.
But the flame he has… it’s different.
It wasn’t meant to destroy. It was meant to give warmth, not to burn. To give light and life, not take it. To ignite passion and love, not hatred and scorn.
And those were his burning characteristics. His smile, personality, appearance. Overall, he was a human fireball capable of melting the coldest of hearts. The kid was always happy, always found ways to look at the bright side of life and smile at the darkest of times.
That flame that he has within him, it burns brighter than it usually does just for one person. He was no exception to the charms of a certain someone named Kris.
Kris was in a relationship with Chanyeol.
Suffice to say… he was only ONE of the many people he was in a relationship with. Yet, the latter doesn’t know. Too blinded by his affection for the other to notice. Maybe Chanyeol was a bit too trusting, too loving for his own good. He heard rumors and ignored them, choosing to have faith that the love of his life would give back the same faithfulness he had given him.
The older, however, did not really love him back as he continued to flirt with other people. No one dared to chastise him for his actions. He was Kris, he could do whatever he wanted and not get questioned. As a matter of fact, what he wanted, he got. Same principle applies to people… and people wanted him alright, no one could deny it.
It wasn’t until Kris’ world came crashing down. Everything in his life went wrong. School was too frustrating, the situation at home got worse when his parents filed for a divorce, not to mention his overbearing relationship with practically everyone good-looking in the school. It was too much to handle.
Everything was wrong. So very wrong. But Chanyeol stayed by his side, whispering words of comfort and keeping him warm with hugs and kisses that the sheer cold world did not seem to provide.
He was the only thing right in Kris’ messed up life that time.
But he pushed him away…
He got worse. Much much worse than what he was before.
And Chanyeol saw it all...
Every single thing he didn’t want to believe and ignored was shoved down his throat for him to digest. It was right there in front of him. Kris was kissing someone… and it wasn’t him. Definitely wasn’t him. Unless he somehow managed to make a copy of himself which looked like his classmate, then yes.
Chanyeol’s flame was momentarily put out, as if doused with ice cold water. The other continued with a shrug, feeling a bit of weight in his chest he couldn’t quite explain.
Days after the said incident, Kris was feeling unsettled. He paced back and forth not knowing what to do. Giddy was the word. He was finally back on track and everything seemed better.
And on Chanyeol’s birthday at that. He secretly thinks that the kid brings him miracles… and that Chanyeol himself was a living miracle.
He had only realized this now though.
Kris rushed towards Chanyeol’s house… instead of getting him a present to console him, he wanted to personally beg on his knees to apologize. His hope was way up.
However….
When he reached his house… Standing in the porch was Chanyeol, his shoulders shaking violently with each heartbreaking whimper that left his lips as he cried himself a river. A soft kiss was planted on his forehead and he found the will to smile again.
Chanyeol’s flame was burning brighter than ever.
But this time…. It wasn’t for Kris anymore.
There he was, so close yet so far away.
Close enough for him to see, but he just can’t touch, no -wasn’t for him to touch-
I want you to burn, burn for me baby, like a candle in my life
