Contrary to popular belief, not all covert operations were executed as night jobs. If operatives in the night shift already find their task hard, ones who were deployed in broad daylight would have found it much, if not equally, harder to complete their jobs.
However, Day jobs for a certain operative would be akin to paperwork and would be as simple as any corporate work. Not that he was one to brag of course, but he was one among the highest ranking in his field.
Under the guise of a witty architect working in one of the lesser known architectural firms in the whole of Seoul, South Korea was Kris Wu. He didn’t consider it an alter ego of any sort, although he does wear glasses and maintains a low profile as much as possible, slightly reminiscent of a Clark Kent-esque appearance but with longer blonde hair slicked back.
The seemingly mild-mannered architect Kris punches in his time card everyday at exactly 7:00 AM and comes out thirty minutes later as a living weapon. He was the ace of the deck and was sent only to perform the most dangerous of missions.
For Kris, it was all very ironic. As a kid, his dream was to become a doctor. One to save lives and preserve them. Who knew that after a number of years have come to pass that his job would be the complete opposite? He never imagined himself to be someone who would take lives instead of saving them.
At times, he would consider himself as a gun-for-hire, a mercenary, an assassin, maybe even a thug and these assumptions would sometimes prove themselves to be true for reasons that he was very much aware of. One, he got paid to kill. Second, he kills because he was ordered to. And third, he carries no burden of regret.
Kris is pretty much a well-rounded murderer of horrifying proportions.
Though he does this all for the greater good... or as his agency says so.
It brings him a little satisfaction though, to see that he takes lives, but manages to save more by doing so. Potential bombings, illegal importation and exportation of deadly firearms and much more gruesome matters are what he prevents to keep the unsuspecting population of the country safe (and oblivious) from harm’s way.
No regrets.
He’s doing this all for the greater good.
“Damn...” Kris muttered silently, zipping up the black leather jacket up to his neck as he shoved another magazine of bullets in his gun and leaned cautiously against the graffiti-covered walls of a remote warehouse in a very hidden location near what seems to be a private pier.
The tall man was frustrated beyond all reason as he looked at his watch. “Jinah’s gonna kill me.”
Earlier, Kris had arranged for him and his wife to have lunch together so they could catch up with each other after almost a whole week of not being able to be with each other despite living in the same roof.
Suffice to say, Kris was more afraid of being killed by his wife rather than his present adversaries which were more or less, highly-skilled and trained individuals brainwashed to kill, steal and kill some more.
And so, Mr. Wu had indeed decided to call his wife.
It was a life and death situation after all... sans his enemies right now, they were categorized as nuisances.
A grenade was thrown shortly before he was able to press the speed dial for Jinah’s number to which he responded with yet another curse word, this time, of Chinese origin. Kris swiftly retaliated, firing with much speed all the while having his phone pressed closely to his ear after having successfully dialed his wife’s number. He then ducked for cover in one of the metal barrels (which he made sure were empty, in case they manage to explode at the sudden throwing of an explosive or contact with a stray bullet) and heard shuffling from the other line.
“Hey baby~” Kris called affectionately to the other, looking around suspiciously. He never expected this one target to be troublesome. “I think I’ll be running a bit late... How about you?”
There was a distinct amount of silence in the other line (as well as Kris’ surroundings) before Jinah answered. “Oh... I’m not sure... Hold on honey.” Another set of shuffling sounds was heard before another grenade was thrown from an unknown location and exploded with a loud boom.
Kris swore he heard a loud booming sound on Jinah’s line as well.
“Baby, are you okay?” he asked, a bit worried that his wife must be in one of her clumsy days (he secretly adored seeing his wife being all vulnerable like that. Tripping over random things on the floor).
“I’m fine~ Psh~ The girls are just playing Call of Duty.”
“In the office?”
“Nicole’s addicted.”
“Cool. I’m okay here too though. I’m in a construction site so I’m sorry if it’s kinda noisy.”
“Gotcha.” Jinah laughed and hearing this, Kris wanted to just ditch the mission that moment and tell whoever this grenade-throwing goon was that he badly needed to see his lovely wife.
“I’m kinda busy at the moment, I’ll just see you later baby, Love you~”
“Love you too~ Hugs and kisses!~”
The line was cut off immediately after Jinah had made smooching sounds and Kris got back on track. The tall man maneuvered himself stealthily up the warehouse roof and withdrew the sniper rifle from his back, setting up to obliterate his target.
He maintained his position for about three seconds as he locked on and with a mere pull of a trigger, his enemy was reduced to nothing more than a mere corpse on the cold concrete pavement. A silent death it was.
Finally accomplishing his job, Kris dusted himself off. First thing he thought of was that he had to at least look decent in front of his wife... although his intentions before were plainly focused on wooing her so they’d get down later when they get home, he’d have to settle for just a long kiss later.
That was... until he heard a subtle beeping sound coming from nearby.
Time bomb.
“CRAP.”
Looks like Jinah will have to wait just a few more minutes.
