So i've made it to kolcata. Only problem was the severe lack of money. By lack of money i mean i was down to my last 3 hundred rupees (75 rupees to the pound) when i got here. My bank hadn't sent my new bank card for my flat mate to forward it to me and i'd run out of traveller's cheques. I'd emailed my mum 3 days previously but apparently there

Fun fun. So what do you make of Kolkata, apart from that it's remarkably solidly full of Bengalis who often seem quite surprised to see anyone who's not an Indian? Probably a relatively easy place to exist without any money, at least...!

I think you'll enjoy Darjeeling. Stunningly beautiful place, good clean air, great tea, monkeys, actual white people (not that that's a big thing in and of itself, but it is sometimes nice to be stared at less). Make sure you get up to Mahakal temple, in the centre of town!

Probably a pretty good town for sitting on street corners with a guitar, though I haven't actually put that to the test... :)
