[A knock on the door was really the last thing England was expecting at the moment. Honestly, he was just taking advantage of one of the first really quiet moments there had been in a while. So finding Ema Skye standing on his doorstep clutching a box tightly to her chest and looking more than slightly out of place definitely came under things that had never even crossed his mind as a possibility.

Thus, he reacted rather accordingly. That is, by staring in disbelief and wondering how she'd gotten away with wandering through London without being stopped by someone - more to the point, what she was doing here in the first place when she knew how dangerous it was. After a few seconds of silence, he finally found his voice enough to ask:]

Good lord, what are you doing on my doorstep?

[She doesn't wave, mostly because she's sure that would mean dropping the box. She looks very red in the face, through a combination of cold and embarrassment. But she came this far, and she's not going to go home without giving the tea to him. Still, it felt very much like she was called on in class after doodling in her notebook for the last ten minutes.]

I know you haven't gotten anything in a few weeks because of the shadows. So I thought I'd bring a gift, sir! Um. So I came here.

[She looks around at Mr. Kirkland's city, before glancing down at her feet. She shuffles them awkwardly, before looking back up at him sheepishly.]

And I think that might be a bad idea, but it seemed like a good one at the time.

[She's leaving out the fact that she'd do it anyway.]

[He still can't quite believe it. In fact, to be quite honest, he thinks that she's perfectly barmy right about now, and is about five seconds away from saying as much. Still, at least she recognises how much of a stupid idea it was. And now that she's here, he can't quite bring himself to turn her away anyway, and --

-- wait, what, hang on just a moment. A gift? For him?

He blinks. And then sighs, trying not to sound as wrong-footed as he's feeling right now. It doesn't quite work, but the effort's there.]

Well. Since you're here now, you might as well come in, I suppose.

[That sheepish look turns into something like a smile. She still feels a little strange here, more like very, but at least tea will be delivered to the proper place. She hands him the box, which probably smells quite a bit like what it contains. Well, she tries to, anyway, it's a little awkward out here, and she's not exactly coordinated at the moment.]

Thank you, sir! I won't stay too long or anything, promise.

[So she comes inside, and tries to reign in the impulse to touch everything on the way in. It's a very strong impulse.]
