Courfeyrac attempts to make Marius more cultured by introducing him to opera. There are five things in the way:

1) Marius's clothes are unsightly. Courfeyrac takes him to a persnickety tailor for a fitting.

2) Marius does not understand Italian.

3) Marius is tone-deaf.

4) He is also a perfect booby (sorry, no beast fills).

5) Despite items 1-4, Courfeyrac finds Marius utterly charming. Courfeyrac wants to put the spare mattress back in its original place and introduce Marius to the de Courfeyracs.
