[ History ] :
I don't think it ever specifies if Silabus was a player during the original version of “The World”, so I'm pretty sure that he wasn't and that his start began in R:2, the version in which //G.U takes place. And what is “The World”, exactly? It's only the most popular MMORPG currently in existence, a steam-based fantasy game which is often all over the news for various reasons. For starters, there are players who have become known as “online junkies”, people who take their portable gaming systems with them literally everywhere they go. This gaming consoles are like virtual reality visors and come in the form of headsets.
But there are other reasons the game catches attention of the public eye, even to those not interested in the game itself. A number of players, over time, had become comatose while playing the game. No one knows the reason, and no one knows the cure. But there are rumors floating around on the forums, like that it might be the work of a rampant PKer (a Player-Killer) named Tri-Edge. //G.U. focuses on Haseo, a PKKer (Player-Killer Killer) whose best friend, Shino, went into a coma because she met Tri-Edge. He vowed to become strong enough to defeat him and chose to do so by PKing PKers. He became so good at it that he even earned himself the nickname the Terror of Death. However, when he finally felt he was ready, he went up against him... and lost. While he didn't suffer the same fate as Shino, the attack used on him, Data Drain, reformatted his character entirely, setting him back to Level 1 and causing him to lose everything he'd worked so hard for.
And that's when he meets Silabus and Gaspard, two members of a guild named Canard (of which Silabus is the guild master) which is an organization created to help out newbie players. Believing that Haseo in his now Level 1 state is a newbie, they offer to show him the ropes, even though he kept insisting that he was the Terror of Death and that his character was reverted due to some weird glitch. They took him to a dungeon to gain some levels and teach him the basic gameplay, but even after he already knew how to play, they were so sure he was just roleplaying. But, once they reached the end of the dungeon, they were ambushed by a group of PKers who were after the Terror of Death for revenge. Having someone else acknowledge it, well... made them realize his story was true.
After that, however, Haseo remains in contact with the two. They look out for him, but they also rely on him from time to time for minor things, and Silabus says that he thinks it's a good idea for Haseo to learn more about “The World”. As he and Gaspard start setting up an item stand called “Shop Acorn”, they run into some issues, and Silabus leaves Haseo in charge while he tends to them. He returns to see that Haseo was running it excellently and points out that he had real leadership skills. In fact, he suggests that Haseo become the new leader of their guild. He reluctantly agrees, but he turns out to be a pretty decent guild master.
Later, certain events transpire that cause Haseo to want to participate in the Arena tournament. Due to the increasing number of PKs in “The World”, the makers of the game tried to lower the occurrences by making an official battlefield where players could battle against one another. During the tournament, players are allowed to form groups of three and compete for the title of Emperor, the last group standing. Currently, that Emperor is Endrance, a solo party member that Haseo becomes determined to beat at all costs.
But his problem is... finding teammates. Due to his abrasive personality, Haseo doesn't really have much in the way of friends. His only options were really Silabus and Gaspard, but while Silabus agreed to help out, Gaspard said it wouldn't be possible for him; his stage fright would prevent him from being of any use. That left them down a party member, but Haseo ultimately was able to convince Atoli, a girl who shared Shino's character type but Haseo didn't really care for, to join as their third member.
Things were going really well! And though they're starting rank was dead last at 500, they managed to quickly scale into the top rankings, starting at 16. But it was just before that match was to begin that things had started to go badly. Haseo didn't even realize it until Gaspard was too upset to hide it, but he and Silabus finally told him that since he joined the tournament, he and Gaspard were getting bullied for it, by the PKers who had tried to get him when they first met him. While Haseo assured them that he would take care of it, the whole ordeal left them both feeling depressed, since “The World” had become a place that was no longer enjoyable to play in. It wasn't fun anymore; it was sad and it was scary, and for something that meant so much to them, they couldn't help but be upset. To make matters worse, Silabus said he wouldn't be able to concentrate on the tournament with thoughts like that lingering in his mind, and so he dropped out of the next match.
It was that incident and their reaction to it that caused Haseo to realize the difference in his reasons for playing and theirs. For Silabus and Gaspard, they play in “The World” to play a game, to have fun, something that Haseo forgets is the objective for normal players. The two had watched out for him from the beginning, but gradually, Haseo starts to look out for them as well, and his first step was taking care of the PKers that bullied them. It just so happened that they were his next opponents in the tournament, and even being down a player, Haseo fights, and... should have lost. Normal players couldn't see what happened, but at that moment, Haseo awakened to a special power that ensured his victory, although it was at a dangerous price. Fortunately however, the players he attacked were unharmed.
After that, Gaspard and Silabus regained their spirits, and Silabus rejoined the team, apologizing for letting him down in his time of need.
[ Personality ] :
Silabus is a cheerful and optimistic guy who really loves helping people. After all, he believes that “making people happy makes you happy too”. He absolutely loves cutting edge technology, so when something new and shiny comes out, he absolutely has to have it. That's how he got into “The World”; the realistic graphics and the incredible design of the system was just too good to pass up. He's someone who takes his playing seriously, too. He takes on responsibilities and follows them through as he would do in real life. In fact, he teaches that there isn't any difference between those you play with online and those you interact with offline, and therefore everyone should be treated with respect. His ideal “The World” is one where everyone can get along and play happily together.
Not long after he began playing, Silabus joined a guild called Canard, which was dedicated to assisting newbie players. One day, the guild master had to leave due to personal issues, and he left Silabus in charge as the new guild master. He and Gaspard never pried into what the situation was, so they were never very clear about it, but Silabus supported his decision and continues to do his best in the position. His involvement with Canard became a very positive influence on his life. He really liked making a difference, and thought if he could do it online, he should do it offline as well, and so he began volunteering at local organizations.
Silabus is also what is known as an “online junkie”, and he fully admits it. These are people who bring their M2D headsets with them everywhere they go so that they can enjoy “The World” as much as possible. However, Silabus is conscientious about the negative aspects in his personality and hobbies, and so to improve his health a bit, he took up jogging. Of course, he admits he still brings his M2D along.
Online, Silabus's attitude is impossible to misinterpret. He's polite and courteous and has a tendency to add emoticons often. He's very knowledgeable about “The World” and loves to share that knowledge with others, to make sure they're getting the full benefit of everything the game has to offer. :)
[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :
His strength lies in his heart. He views the good in people and just wants to get along with everyone. He has some leadership experience from his time as a guild master, and he's able to mediate should the need arise. He's very supportive and his words generally lend comfort to those who seek it, and he's determined, especially when he's trying for another's sake.
Of course, his very strength can be a weakness as well. Since he doesn't like fighting to solve problems, he makes himself an easy target against those unwilling to listen to reason. He's been bullied before, too, and he simply asked them to stop, which... didn't really work very well. While he's most often seen looking cheerful and ever-optimistic, the truth is that he is prone to negative emotions, too, especially when he's faced with a reality that upsets his ideal.
[ Other Important Facts ] :
Since Silabus was logged in at the time, his character is the one transported to Vatheon. However, his player's consciousness is within it. Therefore, it's likely that Morino Yuuichi, the player, is in a coma as a result.
His character type is a Blade Brandier, which can wield medium-sized, one-handed, or katana-like swords. His equipped weapon was a Blade Thread.
His character level was 35 at the time of his transportation. The skills he had were Sword Flash, Ogre Sword, and Lateral Moon
[ Sample ] :
Silabus was running a little behind today. He wasn't really worried about it, since he knew that Gaspard would understand why he was late for opening up the shop. He had stopped to help out a new player, and they had loads of questions. As per their guild guidelines, of course that would take precedence over the business. Still, he wasn't without guilt. After all, he'd gotten stopped before he was able to gather the items he and Gaspard had agreed upon, and by the time he waved farewell to the new player, he was already so late. It was one thing to arrive late, but to arrive empty-handed on top of that was a little embarrassing.
But he wasn't the type to delay the inevitable, and at any rate, he still intended to gather the supplies. This was just to give him a status report as a courtesy so that Gaspard didn't begin to worry. He thought to deliver it in person since he was so near to the shop, but when he arrived, Gaspard wasn't there, either. Well... Thanks to the amazing connectability of “The World”, that problem was easily solved. Without even having to logout, he pulled up a short mail window and sent his friend a message:
Sorry, I got held up, so I wasn't able to open up the shop on time. I'm on my way to gather the items now, so meet me at the shop in a few, okay? :)
