Name: Neville Longbottom
Nicknames: none
Birthday: 30 July
Age: 15
School Year: Fifth

Which House: Gryffindor
Reasoning?: Honestly, Neville expected to be a Hufflepuff, but apparently the Hat thought that his bravery and chivalry was more prominent than his loyalty and... general Hufflepuff-ness.

Appearance: Neville is a bit above average height, standing at 6' even. He has brown hair and light green eyes in a round face. Neville is a bit on the plump side, and has buck teeth.
(Went with the movie version - tall with brown hair - as opposed to the book / JKR version - short with blonde hair - because I so love Matthew Lewis as Neville).

Personality: Neville is a rather nice individual, though he has very low self esteem, which is due, in part, to teasing by fellow students and his grandmother's belief that he isn't living up to his parents' accomplishments. Neville is clumsy, forgetful, and shy, and many people (Gryffindors included) believe that he is ill-suited for the House. (He proved them wrong by standing up to his only actual friends at the time - Harry, Ron, and Hermione - at the end of his first year).
Neville is incredibly loyal to his friends, and is, in all honesty, a rather great guy.
Extra: Neville's apparent inaptitude at magic stems from his low self-esteem, not lack of ability.

Blood Status: Pureblood
History: When he was a baby, Neville's parents were tortured to insanity by use of the Cruciatus Curse by a group of four Dark Wizards and Witches who apparently had a grudge against his parents, well-known Aurors. As such, he was raised by his maternal grandmother; though he always visits his parents at St Mungo's over holidays.
As a young child, his gran hoped that he'd be as amazing a wizard as his father... and was thusly disappointed when it appeared that young Neville was a squib. She was a stern woman, and very concerned that her only grandchild may very well have been a squib. Neville's magical powers only manifested when he his great-uncle "accidentally" dropped him out of a window, where he bounced. (This was the same great-uncle who bought him Trevor for admission to Hogwarts).
He didn't buy a wand in Diagon Alley, unlike most wizards, instead, his grandmother gave him his father's wand to use.
