Fandom Meme: Day 2

Finals hit me damn hard, followed by an 8 day migraine. BUT here is Day 2 of the meme, with a new question.

Kevin <3 <3 <3. I think I'm drawn to the character for a lot of the same reasons you are (and the power differential in sevin is definitely part of what fascinates me about that ship). And yeah, I don't usually lock onto characters who overtly remind me of me, but that definitely happened with Kevin, at least in part.

And he just occupies a unique position in the show because he's the one character who spends a significant amount of time with the Winchesters, is framed as a "good guy," and is never fully reconciled to them and their behavior.

One of the things I wonder about Kevin (and how I've seen fandom respond to him) is whether he was written (at least in s8+s9) to be identifiable. Character identification is something that happens in the reader, it isn't a technique exactly, but I wonder if we as the audience are intended to try and see ourselves in normal, out-of-his-depth, Kevin Tran--especially as the boys have become more and more warped over the seasons?

This is one of the things that draws me in, too. The fact that he occupies such a tenuous position, but can still be critical of the boys.
