[Character name] Cloud Strife
[Age] 23.
[Canon] Final Fantasy VII
[Point in time taken from canon] Post Advent Children.

[Background]

۶ Cloud was born and raised in the sleepy town of Nibelheim. As a child, he was isolated from the rest of the kids around his age and spent most of his childhood by himself. His mother raised Cloud after his father died, which only seemed to add to the isolation. At some point in his childhood, he began to have a crush on his next door neighbor, Tifa Lockhart (which the crush was shared with half the boys who lived in Nibelheim).

۶ When Tifa's mother died, Cloud and her went on a little 'journey' as the girl had been convinced she could see her mother again by crossing Mt. Nibel only to get injured. With his loner status on high alert throughout the town, it was only assumed that it had been Cloud's idea to go to the mountain and he was forbidden to speak to Tifa again for 'endangering her life'. This only added to Cloud's loner complex and an anger problem that he would carry around with him because he hadn't been strong enough to keep her safe. It was also one of the main reasons why Cloud would attempt to become part of SOLDIER, but there was another reason to it as well.

۶ Sephiroth. Cloud learned of Sephiroth, his exploits, and adventures. At his young age, Cloud had idolized the SOLDIER to the point where he wanted to become exactly like him. It was then that Cloud told Tifa of his wishes before departing from Nibelheim in the effort to become a part of SOLDIER.

۶ In reality, Cloud wasn't much of a SOLDIER. He didn't even make it to being a SOLDIER but not wanting to return to his village a failure, he vouched for the next best thing. Becoming an infantryman. It was while working for Shinra as an infantryman that he would meet his friend, Zack Fair after the two bonded from the both of them hailing from small, backwater towns. The both of them continue to go on missions together after that, Cloud being the infantry back-up that Shinra tended to send with SOLDIER where they went. It eventually led to them being sent back to Nibelheim to investigate a broken reactor.

۶ The investigation, while he was undercover because he didn't want anyone in town to notice it was him, led first class SOLDIER -- Sephiroth into becoming mad after discovering his origins and some truth behind Jenova to the point where he locked himself in the basement of the Shinra Mansion. Sephiroth would come out eventually...only to destroy the entire village in a fiery pit of doom. Killing most of the residents, including Cloud's mother (right in front of him) and Tifa's father.

۶ Cloud gets his revenge on Sephiroth for the most part when the pair faces off after Zack attempts to fight him but is overpowered by the other SOLDIER. Cloud's impaled by Masamune, but he uses the long sword to lift Sephiroth off the ground and overpowers him for a moment. Due to his wounds, when Shinra arrive he is unable to fight back (because he's unconscious) and he, along with Zack, are taken captive by Professor Hojo in the hopes of creating Sephiroth clones. Which he succeeds at some length, for four years both of the men are subjected to these experiments of being injected with Jenova's cells and exposed to Mako.

۶ Zack is the one who rescued Cloud after he finally woke up and escaped, taking the (at the time) comatose Cloud Strife along with him rather than leaving him behind. For about a year, Zack carried Cloud around while he remained unresponsive to the world around him as he did have a much stronger reaction to the experiments Hojo did on the both of them. Cloud finally snapped out of it after Zack got cornered by Shinra and he was able to be there for his final moments in the world. Zack then noted that Cloud was to be his living legacy and that he would have to go on living for the both of them. Which Cloud did, taking with him Zack's Buster sword and impressing Zack's memories as his own due to the Jenova Cells that had been injected into him during the four year experimentation phase by Hojo.

۶ Cloud and Tifa are reunited when Cloud arrives in Midgar under the persona he adopted when he impressed Zack's memories onto his own. Thus starting a new journey as a mercenary for hire. It was at this time that he was hired by the anti-Shinra group AVALANCHE and the group blows up the Sector 5 reactor. It was also at this time that Cloud got separated from the group and landed himself in the slums and in the church where Aeris Gainsborough. The two would continue to have a little adventure together as they would both launch a rescue mission to save Tifa from Don Corneo while Cloud is dressed as a woman to infiltrate the Shinra informant's home.

۶ Ultimately, Cloud finds himself in the middle of mini-war between AVALANCHE and Shinra in which Shinra isn't really holding back any stops to crush the rogue team. Even going so far as to drop the plates above Sector 7 and killing hundreds of innocent people to get to AVALANCHE or even just sully their names. It is around this time that AVALANCHE is arrested, but while imprisoned Cloud awakens only to find the cell open and the guards (and the leader of Shinra) slaughtered with the Masamune impaled through President Shinra. After their escape it becomes clear to Tifa (at least) when Cloud speaks of his past that something is wrong as he left out Zack entirely from the events from Nibelheim.

۶ The group began their search to track down Sephiroth (while fighting Shinra) on their search. While they were looking it became almost painfully obvious that something was wrong with what Shinra was doing -- even more wrong than they had originally thought as they drilled into the Lifestream of the planet it seemed as though things around these drill sites were getting progressively worse. Not as better yet but that Sephiroth seemed to be leading them somewhere. Along the way of attempting to uncover what Sephiroth's intentions truly are, Cloud begins to find out more about himself. Much in the way of Sephiroth seemingly having the ability to control his actions as he does attack Aeris but he is subdued by their friends. Aeris leaves while Cloud is unconscious and Cloud begins his pursuant on Aeris and getting the Black Materia from Sephiroth.

۶ They follow Aeris to the Forgotten Capital where Cloud almost loses control of himself once again, but he stops himself from attacking Aeris. But he is unable to save Aeris from being killed by Sephiroth who turned out to be seemingly waiting in the wings. It's at this time that he tells the others that Sephiroth can control him before they once again get the Black Materia back into their hands. Cloud handed it over to someone else because he was not to be trusted. Soon after that, Cloud learned of his role in everything (a little in the past) but mostly in Hojo's Jenova Reunion Theory that the experimentation on him and Zack had been the start of. In this weak state of mind, Cloud uses an illusion to trick the others into taking the Black Materia and giving it back to Sephiroth who activates it -- and Barrett, Tifa, and Cloud fall into the lifestream soon after Cloud apologizes to his friend about being a fake.

۶ While Aeris's spirit protects Tifa from Mako poisoning, Cloud has no such luck. But the trio is rescued from the Lifestream. It is at this point that Tifa helps the Mako-riddled Cloud through discovering his memories that had been lost to him. It was there that Tifa told Cloud to believe in himself as his self was regained before he came to. It was also around this time that they discovered that Aeris had summoned 'Holy' the ace in the deck of cards that would give them the ability to defeat Sephiroth. Which they did. A lot. And saving the world from the, at the time, god-like Sephiroth and Meteor.

۶ Cloud stopped being a mercenary and focused more on some normalcy while living on 'Edge' along with Tifa. He even started the 'Strife Delivery Business'. It was around this time that Cloud finds the orphan Denzel after the geostigma-riddled kid called Tifa on his phone while he was visiting Aeris's church. But at the same time that the people around him grow in happiness, Cloud remains unhappy as he still carries around the guilt for Aeris and Zack's deaths. It was at this point that Cloud leaves Tifa, Marlene, and Denzel and moves into the church to live by himself.

۶ He began searching for a 'cure' for the plague of 'Geostigma' raging the planet in the hopes of rescuing his young charge 'Denzel'. Only to become infected with it himself. Due to his failures to come up successful in this, Cloud avoids contact with his friends and inevitably cuts himself off from the world. It was at some point during this time that he is contacted through Tifa from the remaining members of Shinra to put some part of himself in a battle against 'remnant's of Sephiroth that had shown up in Midgar. Even though Cloud wanted nothing to do with Shinra or any vendetta's people may have had, he would become part of the entire 'event'.

۶ Cloud is sent on a rescue mission (having to overcome his own fear of failure) when the Geostigma ridden children are taken by the three remnants who have deemed them instrumental in finding Jenova's head. This including Cloud's charge, Denzel, who he eventually saves along with Tifa when the remnants come close to finding the head of Jenova within Midgar. Cloud's Geostigma is healed by the water from Aeris's church when he is led their by Kadaj (the leader of the remnants). It is at this point that the two battle before Kadaj absorbs Jenova's cells and Sephiroth is reborn.

۶ Needless to say, the duo fight. Sephiroth seems to have the upperhand in strength even as he stabs Cloud in the shoulder, telling him that he will take away everything that is precious to him before Cloud regains his strength through the thoughts of just wanting to protect his friends and the people close to him. He kicked his ass...but before much celebrations were to be had, Yazoo and Loz blow up the building that Cloud was standing on seemingly killing the three of them. But Cloud doesn't die. He's just merely wounded and it's thanks to Aeris that he survives as he is healed by being rested in the pool of healing water in her church. It was at this time that Denzel was also healed. Cloud sees Aerith and Zack near the doorway. Before they leave, Aerith's final words try to make sure that Cloud will be all right. He replies that he will, because he knows he is not alone anymore.

۶ Cloud restarts 'Strife Delivery Service' after the ordeal is finished and moved back in with his family after finally learning to forgive himself rather than hold the guilt that was obviously misplaced over his head.

[Personality]

For the most part, to explain Cloud is not as easy as it seems. He's withdrawn to a certain extent when it comes to showing his feelings to the people around him, something that has always been a difficulty for him. Since a child he was more shy than outgoing due to the personal reasons. Growing up was especially hard on him since he felt as though he had to take responsibility for the absence of his father when it came to his home. For the most part, Cloud has always had an attachment to certain people in his life from the very beginning and when he's around those people he tends to grow a little more into the person he's meant to be. When he was growing up it was his mother and the local girl, Tifa, whom Cloud felt the closest too. When he was getting older, it was Zack and so on and so forth. How Cloud grew and adapted to his surroundings completely depended on Cloud by the end of the day.

He doesn't accept defeat easily. It was clear at the time when he decided to be like his 'hero' Sephiroth and join SOLDIER -- obviously this was not a success so he didn't exactly go back to his hometown with his tail between his legs. Whether it's because he's unwilling to face falling short of his goal or that he may be a bit too prideful to just hold his hands up and say that he couldn't do it. Cloud does come off as prideful at times, secretly if anything. He is mostly unwilling to say he is unable to do anything. Even if he has to compromise to do what needs to be done (which in some cases compromising is unacceptable). Cloud's a fighter when it comes down to it. He's not unwilling to try anything to get what he wants, but he's not as cold hearted to do whatever it takes to get what he wants. Cloud does have his boundaries and his own weaknesses that sometimes keeps him from reaching the point he needs to be, but he usually mans up to get the rest of the way at the end anyway.

Unlike his friend, Zack, Cloud isn't as open as he was. Emotionally reserved due to the things that has happened in his past. Cloud keeps the ones he loves at a distance since in his own little mind he is protecting them from being dragged along with him to where ever he's headed. He hasn't not proven himself to be some sort of hero however; when he's needed Cloud is usually around to assist people.

He has the tendency to live in the past. Though he has gotten over the deaths of both Zack and Aeris -- for a great amount of time he continued to blame himself for their deaths. Cloud does take things very seriously when it comes to his friends; he tends to put himself as their personal savior. Rather unconsciously even. He will do what it takes to keep them safe, even if means putting himself in danger to keep them safe. He is always open to throwing himself to the wolves for the people he cares about even though openly saying he cares about them isn't something Cloud does. He's more of an action type of guy. His actions are used to show people that he cares, worries, and thinks about them. Even though for a time, he wasn't very good at that. When Cloud tends to think on his actions and such he tends to get distant and push others away. He also tends to take a lot on his plate despite the consequences. Whereas, when he does need help he has a difficult time coming to people to say that he does. Cloud is more willing to let the problem get way out of proportion before he is willing to ask for help from his friends and that is something that is one of his downfalls.

Though he does have the tendency to carry the world on his shoulders and blame himself for the 'bad things' that happen to the people around him. Cloud is a caring and compassionate friend. He isn't unwilling to go head first into a situation if he has too, though Cloud does prefer to have some sort of plan. Cloud does come off as someone who is willing to do a lot for his friends, and opens up when a group of familiar people around around him rather than close off. Even so, he's not very sociable. When he meets new people he doesn't go at them like they're brand new friends but rather more people that he has to be concerned about. Not outwardly however. Cloud is not the mother hen type (and will never ever be) but he is the type to take home someone off the street if they look like they're in need. This happens in Denzel's case when Cloud, more or less, adopts him into the little family he and Tifa have.

Recently there's been a lighter side of Cloud that has been showing. It'd been shown before when he allowed Tifa and Aeris to dress him in woman's clothing. He has more a dry, ironic wit. Something that most people wouldn't be able to pick up on unless they were really paying attention to him but he has gotten to a point where he can crack a joke or two. If only during rare occasions when he were to do such a thing.

[Abilities]

Cloud is a human. He has normal weaknesses as people go and will more than likely die of being in a fight rather than old age. Old age is still an option. Being an 'ex-SOLDIER' (at some point in his deluded history), he was injected with mako and JENOVA cells that put him a step above just being a normal human. He has superhuman abilities that includes enhanced strength, speed, agility, endurance and physical senses (hearing, sight, smell, etc). As well as above par fighting skills. Cloud is also pretty skilled when it comes to hand-to-hand combat and sword fighting.

[Other important stuff] None?

[Sample post]
[First Person]

oo1. If you could go back home, would you? Why or why not?

I would. There are people that are expecting me to come home now and would not be very happy if I didn't show up the time that I told them I would. Not that it matters, they know if I get caught up in something I'll end up coming home eventually.

oo2. Someone is trying to rob you! What do you do?

They would succeed. But eventually I would catch up to them...and get my stuff back. It'll just take a while.

oo3. If I offered to save your soul for a price, would you go with it and why?

Why would my soul need to be saved? What's in it for you? If I had to choose an answer it would be no. I don't think you should waste your time with saving my soul when there's a lot of other people out there who would be more willing for your help.

oo4. Would you consider yourself a hero or a villain? Why? Neither is an option as well, but still tell why.

I would have gone with neither. Well...my friends consider me a hero, I guess. So I'll go with that. It might be because I saved peoples lives. I'm not entirely sure what else could define me as either a hero or a villain. Though I haven't done anything entirely evil. If I were a villain it would be because I didn't do anything in the first place.

oo5. You are on the verge of death. You know there is no way to survive and there's no coming back. Choose any of the following to answer: What is your last wish? Your last regret? Last thoughts? How do you feel? Who is the last person you think of other than your killer? (can answer more than one of these question, but it will at most count as 2 questions)

My last wish would be to make sure the person who killed me is going to die also. I don't want to live this world knowing that someone is out there that can hurt the others after getting rid of me. It's...I just wouldn't want to leave them undefended. Especially Denzel and Marlene, even if Tifa could handle herself. I would also...die thinking of them. The others. I wouldn't be able to get them off my mind since I did make a promise that I would always try to come back home. I'm sure I can't do that when I'm dead.

oo6. You have two options: either save your friend who is hanging from a cliff, or chase after the bad guy who put them in a position. If you choose the former, the bad guy will get away and it will be hard to catch him. If you choose the latter, the cliff will crumble and the friend will fall to the spiky rocks below. What do you do and why?

I would save my friend. If it's any of the people I hang around with then they would be a little annoyed that I chose to go after the...bad guy...instead of helping them out. We'd be able to go find the person who put them in that position eventually and then they would get what they deserved. I'd let my friend get the first hit in too.

[Third Person]

He had spent little less than a few minutes within the place he had awakened before Cloud had decided that he wasn't just going to sit around and wait for someone to come to him. He hadn't even checked to see if anyone he knew was taken along with him. The Dreamberry was forgotten deep within his pocket (he really was bad when it came to things that involved communication...still). It was one of his big things that Tifa had sworn that she was going to fix at some point. Cloud apparently needed to keep open communication between his friends and himself otherwise he would have just ended up as he was before. Living on his own, waiting to join the ghosts of his past in the Lifestream. Even if those didn't even want him to join him it seemed. The former SOLDIER hadn't spared a moment as he walked through the streets of Somni, hands to his sides and keeping closer to the shadows and out of sight of any other people who he may have seen.

There were no expectations that he would see Tifa or Barret...or anyone else familiar to him. And for the most part, the city had not disappointed. He truly had been alone. It didn't seem as dangerous as one would consider a new environment would be. Truthfully, Midgar was more dangerous. No one had tried to mug him or something of the like. The truth was that Midgar was more of the place that seemed to fit Cloud than anywhere else. Even though he had never openly called it his home before. It was certainly looking like it when it came to being compared to this. At the very least, back there he knew how things were supposed to be. When it came to the short time he was spending here, things just seemed a little off to him. With normalcy kicked out the window, the spikey-haired blond didn't quite know if he was supposed to be expecting someone to fight him or if he was expecting someone to run up to him and hug him. Even though the former would have been the desired choice. Cloud would have just floundered in confusion if someone had just decided to give him a hug rather than anything else.

Cloud cleared his throat for a moment, keeping his gaze forward as he continued walking. Sure he hadn't had an idea of his destination to his wandering. He just knew that he wouldn't get anywhere by just sitting around and waiting for someone to give him answers.

There was some success in the fact that when someone looked like they wanted to be left alone, they were. Most people who came close to bumping into Cloud seemed to steer out of his way before any sort of altercation was reached between them as he kept to himself. Tifa wouldn't have been very happy that he was being like this again. It was not as if he was meaning to seem as though he were brooding. He just didn't see a reason in coming across to any other people as out of his normal state. Cloud stopped briefly for a moment before drawing in a deep breath and reaching into his pocket to pull out the Dreamberry, contemplating actually putting something out there with the...something resembling hope that someone he knew would be around. But even the tiny bit of indecision left him placing the device back into his pocket. I'll do it later, he told himself before continuing on his walk.

[Why do you want to play this character in Somarium?] I just think it would be an interesting way to explore the character. I've been playing Cloud for a while at another game so seeing what becomes of him in Somerium would be interesting.
[Which rule was your favorite and why?] I think for me it's got to be the Playercest rule. A lot of games I'm in tend to over look that and there's just a lot of one sided plotting I've had to deal with. It's kinda boring. /=
[Where did you hear about Somarium?] This chick...named Emerald held a gun to my head. No lie.
[Any questions?] NOPE!
