Help me spend my money!

Thinking about my future (Canadian) cloud/nubia. I'm figuring I'll need over 1000 yards/metres, probably closer to 1500-2000 knit on needles somewhere between 6-10 probably. And I'm going with a soft white/natural colour. Where I'm having trouble deciding is which yarn I should get. I'm not sure if I want 100% or a blend with silk or cashmere and I ( Read more... )

I'd go with 100% wool. You want the fuzzies!

I think my cobweb might be a little too light, but I adore it. The one you linked looks a little more structured than mine.

Now that we're planning to go back to Gettysburg in 2017, I might get mine finished!

Thanks for the advice! I'm not used to tiny yarns, so maybe I should do laceweight.

Yours will be beautiful!

How tiny do you feel comfortable knitting? And how dense do you want it? The one time I knitted with really cobwebby yarn, no matter how small my needles were, it still looked too hole-y. I would stick with the lace weight. And I agree about the 100% wool!

Good points! I'm not used to knitting anything smaller than fingering weight and I found a nice looking merino lace weight for a good price. :)

I wish I knew more about knitting! I never progressed beyond Level Scarf.

lol Neither have I, really. That's why I'm making this really long scarf. :) With knitting, rectangles are my friends!

I'd go with lace-weight too. And wool. And smooth yarn if your skin is sensitive. Merino's usually pretty yummy :-)

My skin is actually pretty good with wool, which is great because I love wool so much! But yeah, for a delicate thing like this, I want a nicer wool like merino. :) Thanks!

I have HEAPS of a 4 ply faun merino. If you want it, I'll send it to you for the cost of the postage and be glad to see it go to a good home :-)

I know it wasn't the colour you were after, and it is probably heavier too. But hey I thought I'd offer.

I love wool too! I used to be allergic to it as a kid but not as an adult which is great. There's nothing like wool for warmth and comfort. Mmmm!

Thanks for the offer! That's really kind of you. But I think I'm going with a much lighter yarn. Also, I have a big stash of vintage yarn sitting around that I have yet to do anything with because I'm really not much of a knitter. I don't think I could justify adding to it. Sounds really nice though. Thanks again!

I have another vote for lace-weight wool (counting cashmere and merino as varieties of wool). I kind of like the 100% merino lace weight and the wool-cashmere lace weight. The former is a lot lighter than the latter, which sounds like a good thing for knitting a cloud...

Thanks! I think I am going to go with 100% merino lace weight. Seems to be the consensus and you guys would all know better than I.
