I'm a weirdo

I actually like doing handsewn buttonholes! (But for some reason I don't like doing eyelets.) I got all 5 buttonholes done on my corset cover this past week. The corset cover is now on hold, to be finished when I'm back home. There's going to be a sewing day with my living history group when I'm there, so I'm going to take that along to sew on the ( Read more... )

I would totally trade if I lived in Cali! Especially since I'm thinking of making some new stays next year. :p

That's a very nice-looking skirt pattern. Love to see it made up. The curve of the waistband creating the width needed over the hips, and the bias adding in to it. I cut out a skirt (modern everyday wear!) where I was trying to get a similar kind of effect. I went about it totally different though.

That's the long way round to say I'll be really interested in the end skirt. Does it have a pattern? A stripey one would be divine I think!

I have a suiting that has a subtle plaid. You can see it on this post: http://mala-14.livejournal.com/191116.html I agree, a stripe would look stunning!

Oooh nice! I think you will get a great effect with that one too, though :-)

Thanks! Going to try some pattern matching for the first time too. Should be interesting.

I agree! Weirdo AND I also prefer buttonholes to eyelets! I think it's because the eyelets include all the pulling and poking (awl) and the buttonholes are like doing embroidery. Can't wait for pictures of what you are making. :)

Yeah, making the holes really is a hassle. Hoping to get some pics when I'm back home next week!

Can you come over and make all my buttonholes? I fully admit I have an irrational fear of making them.

lol I should turn it into a business, traveling buttonhole-maker. ;p Really though, there's nothing to fear if you do a few practice ones first.
