I've managed to get my skirt to where it should have been before my snafus. It still needs a hem. And preferably a flounce, but I'm waiting on the flounce until I finish the other parts of the gown to make sure I have enough fabric. For the hem, I'm doing a hem facing and I need to put weights in the train because it doesn't seem to want to lie ( Read more... )

Lovely :) Have you been shaping the seam from hip to waist? I think pattern 4 in PoF2 (1868 promenade dress, V&A) is the best example of what I mean. It is described in one of the dressmaking books really well, I'll just see if I can find it.. Though I think ( ... )

Thanks! Yes, I know exactly what you're talking about and I was thinking about doing that (essentially making the dart into the seams, from the hips up) but I thought it'd be OK without. It's alright for now, but on my next one I will definitely do it.

Thanks! Yeah. I think I also need to make the gores steeper from the hips to the waist to get better shaping too. It's all those little things that add up.
