The other aspect of this story which is bad PR for a republican (I would have thought) is that she's 17, which in most US states is below the age of consent, and thus 'the man she will marry' is committing statutory rape (if the age of consent in Alaska is 18).
AFAIK in most US states the age of consent is 16, but with a 3-year window. Like, she could shag someone 3 years her senior but not 4 years her senior. Or something. But you can't get married until you're 18 (except in crazy places like Utah). At least that's how it is in Oregon. *shrug*
Still.. could be interesting if the bloke turns out to be 22 or something.
Alaska age of consent

It's16. So a lot depends on the age of the daughter. Also, statutory rape in Alaska depends on a age difference greater than 3 years between the parties. So this could get much more interesting or much less interesting.
I bet they are forcing them to get married. Or they don't know who the father is. Or the latter, but they are pinning it on some unsuspecting bloke and telling him it's his and he must marry her, then the baby will come out Chinese or something and he'll be all like, "whaaaat?"
