The Aftermath

there is a car--
no headlights to light
the way
home anymore,
forgotten beside
the road
its molded seats
where the children sat
on so many trips
across the Wichita Falls
barren skyline now
torn apart by rain.
piles of wood
that have returned
again from the earth
lay like
